Global superstar Madonna has been keeping busy lately. The hitmaker, known for songs like 'Express Yourself', 'Like a Prayer', 'Like a Virgin' and 'Frozen', took to Twitter to post a picture of her working on her screenplay which she captioned, "In honor of labor day I will work..........#screenplay."

Madonna revealed that she's working on the screenplay of a movie with Academy Award-winning writer Diablo Cody. In a video shared by the pop star on her Instagram, Madonna is seen sitting in her living room with Cody discussing some of the most iconic moments from her four decades-long career. The 62-year-old singer captioned the video, "When you're stuck in a house with multiple injuries what do you do? Write a screenplay with Diablo Cody about..."

Madonna has been working alongside Cody, the screenwriter of movies with female leads like 'Juno', 'Jennifer's Body', 'Young Adult' and 'Tully', throughout the lockdown. According to the short video, the screenplay is going to be centered around music and in all probability, will be a story about the legendary pop star's life. Talking to Cody in the video, Madonna is heard discussing the iconic Jean-Paul Gaultier satin cone-bra look from her 1990 tour prompting fans to believe that the screenplay, too, will be a Madonna biopic.

The singer, in August, shared a video of her working with Cody and captioned it, "Writers for Hire...........Will work for Peanuts Nuts!!! #diablo #madonnalouise."

As word of the tentative biopic spread, fans started tweeting about possible actors and directors who would fit the bill perfectly. One user tweeted, "Madonna also started following actress Florence Pugh on Instagram! Maybe another option for the biopic?"

A Twitter user account pointed how Madonna and her manager recently started following a few new female actors on Instagram and wrote, "After following Julia Garner, Riley Keough and Haley Bennett on Instagram, Madonna and her manager have now followed Florence Pugh - adding her name to the list of actresses in contention to play her in her upcoming Diablo Cody-penned biopic. Who do you think should play Madonna?"

Florence Pugh, the 'Midsommar' star, is Twitter's most favorite to play the Queen of Pop. A Pugh fan tweeted asking, "Florence Pugh is currently among the rumored line up of actresses to play Madonna in her upcoming biopic. Would you like to see Florence portray the iconic superstar?"

Sky Ferreira, star of 'Baby Driver', also emerged as a fan favorite to play Madonna with one fan tweeting, "Why is there a Madonna Biopic and why isn’t Sky Ferreira being considered ????? Hello????"

As for directors, Twitter wants David Fincher, who directed 'Fight Club' and 'Gone Girl', to direct the Madonna biopic.

Interestingly, Fincher first gained prominence as a director after directing the music videos for Madonna's 'Express Yourself' in 1989 and 'Vogue' in 1990. He won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction for both the videos.

This won't be Madonna's first experience with the world of films as she has previously written and directed 2011’s period romance 'W.E.' which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. She has also co-written and directed 2005’s 'Filth and Wisdom,' and starred in films like 'Evita,' 'Dick Tracy,' 'The Next Best Thing,' and 'Swept Away.' Cody, on the other hand, won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for 2007’s 'Juno.'
