'Lovecraft Country' Season 2: Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about HBO's horror drama
The debut season of HBO's 'Lovecraft Country' just wrapped up the most shocking even though heavily teased character death ever. It was meta, to be succinct. We knew Atticus Freeman aka Tic had to sacrifice his life for Christina Braithwaite's ritual, but we never thought he would go ahead and actually do it. To watch his father Montrose bent over Tic's lifeless body, trying to wake him up was a crushing moment that fandom won't be able to forget any time soon. But there was also a faint glimmer of hope as Jonathan Majors, who played Tic, was seen on the screen again, presumably in a future timeline of the show. That and the fact that his cousin Diana Freeman has her own personal Shoggoth offers hope for a second season and should one happen, here's all you need to know about it.
Release date
Given the lockdown regulations and the fact that the debut season premiered in August 2020, Season 2 can be expected to drop sometime around mid-August 2021.
Plot
The plot of Season 2 is expected to revolve around Atticus' son George Freeman in the future, or so hints the flashforward in the season finale aka Episode 10: 'Full Circle'. Speaking about the possibility of a second season, creator Misha Green told Deadline "Nothing is official yet, but I envision a second season that carries on the spirit of Matt Ruff’s novel by continuing to reclaim the genre storytelling space that people of color have typically been left out of." We can expect to see what Dee does with her new protector - the shoggoth, and how Letiraises her and Tic's son now with the recently reclaimed powers of magic and Mark of Cain she possesses. Ruby's fate will also be determined since Christina left her in a comatose state and we don't really know if she's dead or alive. And Hippolyta, with all her magic and years of wisdom, can be expected to explore greater adventures, with Dee by her side. As for Montrose, after one loss after another, we just hope there's a happy ending in there, somewhere in the future.
