Spoilers for 'Love Life' Episode 5

The last episode titled 'Magnus Lund' shows Darby Carter's (Anna Kendrick) relationship with young, now jobless, chef Magnus Lund (Nick Thune). While that episode managed to capture the viewers for 30-minutes, it wasn't because of the relationship, but because of how Lund helped Darby bulk up on confidence. It seems as though Darby doesn't seem to be doing anything inherently wrong when it comes to her relationships, it's just her decision-making skills and the ability for proper judgment go out the window when she sees a 'cute' guy. In the first episode, the British narrator mentioned that Darby, who's parents divorced when she was 4, spent her adolescence making "myriad misguided attempts at attention." So, there's some sort of nature-nurture thing going on here, but we wonder, how was Darby as a teenager?

The series had shown Darby as a little girl being "shuttled" from one parent's home to another and from there we were catapulted to her 'love life' with Augie Jeong (Jin Ha) in New York City. The next episode will take a dive into Darby as a teen and how her relationships were back then. The episode titled, 'Luke Ducharme' (John Gallagher Jr) will most likely take viewers into Darby's heartbreak in high school. While that's great and all, we're hoping for is that she declines her proposal from Lund! The series, we speculate, would have to move forward from the cliffhanger of Episode 4 and hopefully tell us Lund has been declined a wedding - it would be cruel to keep us waiting. Although we all want to know about Darby's next fling, we're also interested in Sara (Zoë Chao) and what her story is with her mother?

Sara has been a dynamic character in the series so far, adding 'spice' to the storyline with her scathing advice and personality. While she was dealt a bad hand when it comes to judgment, the previous episode had opened up a new layer for her as a character. We were shown a few of her insecurities when it came to her boyfriend Jim's (Peter Vack) family and most importantly, how there are "things with her mother" she has not told Jim.  Giving the viewers some insight into a secondary character brought a bit of interest in the storyline. We hope and speculate that the series will divulge more information on Sara, fleshing out the third-dimensional characters that this show so desperately needs.

As per the episode title, we're sure we'll find out all about Luke, and we would speculate that the heartbreak had caused a dent in Darby's life. We're thinking the storyline will follow on how she got over that relationship, but we're hoping for a bit more of an interesting fallout. What did it teach Darby? For it to be an episode, we'd think the relationship and/or the breakup had a big impact on Darby growing up. But the important question is, how does the reminiscing about an old flame correlate with her current relationship with Lund?

New episodes of 'Love Life' will be released every Thursday on HBO Max.
