Not only for his visual style, but his writing. He defies conventional screenwriting rules. He does everything you're told not to do and he ends up making a fabulous film. He doesn't obey the rules. So he's always a huge source of inspiration for me. I love cyberpunk subculture — a visual style ever-present in Japanese Animation and I am a huge fan of Japanese Anime. Kate isn't a sci-fi film, of course, but I wanted the look to be curated in the way a sci-fi film would, something futuristic but true to the present." he explained.
