'Just perfect': Fans cannot wait as AMC announces 'The Walking Dead' spinoff on Rick and Michonne

AMC announced the show on the fictional anniversary of Rick and Michonne

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Walking Dead' fans assemble as we have some exciting news for you! The day you've been waiting for has arrived as we're getting the much-awaited spinoff based on Rick and Michonne titled 'Summit'. It has been seven years since Rick and Michonne became a couple and changed the way the story was progressing. Fans fell in love with the couple and immediately asked that they get more screen time. 

On February 21, 2016, in 'The Walking Dead' episode 'The Next World', Richonne became a reality. Richonne is the ship term used for the couple, with Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln, and Michonne, played by Danai Gurira. The spinoff series will see a six-episode show will debut on AMC and AMC+ in 2024.

As fans celebrate seven years of Richonne, the show's official account tweeted, "Andrew Lincoln and @DanaiGurira are back on set! The next chapter of Rick and Michonne's story begins..." they added. 

Eager fans flooded the replies section. A user wrote, "EVERY OTHER SPIN-OFF NEEDS TO MOVE OVER FOR THE ROYAL COUPLE." "So exciting!!! Can't wait to see them both together again on our screens!!! We've waited so long for this!!!" chimed in another. 

'The Walking Dead' cast and crew sure loves messing with the fans, as they revealed the spinoff details on the day of the fictional couple's supposed anniversary. A fan added, "Yall knew what you were doing dropping this on their anniversary im in tears." Another user added, "On rick and michonne's anniversary too!! just perfect". 

'Summit' will be a mini-series

The spinoff will be a mini-series with just six episodes. The upcoming spinoff is described as an "epic love story" that will show the story continuing from Rick's exit in Season 9 and Michonne’s in Season 10. While Rick is shown to have died, years later Michonne discovers he survived, and she leaves to find him. The first teaser released showed two hands, and fans know well enough who they belong to.
