CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, ILLINOIS: Jim Jordan, chairman of the judiciary committee and a member of the oversight and reform panel, claimed that no amount of training or modification could get rid of "bad apple policeman" after five Memphis police officers viciously beat Tyre Nichols to death. Ohio's Republican Jordan's remarks have gotten him into trouble because the Internet doesn't seem too pleased with them.

Tyre Nichols, age 29, died on Tuesday, January 10 in a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, three days after being severely beaten by five officers from the Memphis Police Department during a traffic stop. Jordan encouraged reform at the local level, arguing that local governments might put in place methods to track 'wandering officers.'

On Friday, January 20, the five cops were terminated from their positions, and on Thursday, January 26, they were reportedly arrested and charged with the murder of Nichols in addition to kidnapping, assault, and misconduct in the line of duty.

When Jordan was asked by the NBC host Chuck Todd about potential remedies to the problem of police violence in minority areas, he demanded increased training and a focus on the community level, as per Daily Mail.

He said, "Well, I'm for the best training possible, But what I'm not for is what we saw there. I don't know that any training, any ban, there was no chokeholds used there. What they did there was just continue to beat Mr. Nichols. And so I don't know that that's the answer." He further added, "But, again, we'll look at what we think makes sense to help this, to make sure they have the proper training. But no amount of training's going to change what we saw in that video," as per the source outlet.

He continued, "This is a law enforcement issue. You start getting the federal government involved in databases and federal licensing, that gets – because the federal government screws it up so many times, I think one of the items in the Democrat legislation a couple of years ago was some kind of federal registry, Well, then you get concerns is every complaint going to be there? Are they going to be just adjudicated complaints? How are we going to track this?" Jordan further said, "And, again, I don't think these five guys represent the vast, vast majority of law enforcement." The Ohio congressman said, "But I don't know that there's anything you can do to stop the kind of evil we saw in that video."

'Maybe have a better hiring process'

These statements of Jordan did not go down well on the internet, people started slamming the Republican over his comment. A Twitter user wrote, "Then maybe have a better hiring process…or better accountability." Another user said, "Might be good to know what training these officers had, if any? Wouldn't you think so, Jim. It's often the Republic party's answer to throw up their hands and throw in the towel." One more user added, "Police are given a lot of power and sometimes people take advantage, like these 5 s******s."

The users kept targeting Jordan and mentioning that this is not the first time he believes something like that. One twitter user stated, "Didn't @Jim_Jordan support the white cops that killed George Floyd? Seems back the blue is race specific with Republicans." A second user wrote, "Gym has never learned anything. He doesn’t expect other people to either." A third added, "Jim Jordan is well practiced at doing nothing about heinous crimes happening right in front of him."
