Lacortiglia's extraordinary story

On April 30, North Carolina's Harnett County Sheriff's Office was contacted by Ohio's Hamilton Township Police Department to verify Lacortiglia's narration of the incident.

Tarheel State police arrived at the defendant's house the same day to perform a welfare check and received no answer after they knocked at the door twice. Lacortiglia then gave the Ohia police the access code to his garage and the deputies began their search after they entered the garage. The officers found the murder story was true after they discovered Blanca Lacortiglia lying dead on a bed inside their house on Swain Street. A gun was found on the bed next to the 37-year-old woman's body along with a firearm magazine.

'I'm sorry. I love you,' read Lacortiglia's chilling note

Deputies found a chilling note on a counter in Lacortiglia's house and it read, "I'm sorry. I love you." After the fatal incident, the alleged killer drove through several states to reach Ohio where his mother resided. He then told his mother that he did not know what has to be done following the murder and she encouraged the defendant to turn himself in to the police.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office obtained a warrant for Lacortiglia after Blanca's body was discovered. In a press release, Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats stated, "Lacortiglia is in the custody of Hamilton Township Police," and added, "No further information will be released at this time." The 8-year-old son of the couple is currently staying in Ohio with the alleged killer's father. The defendant is detained without bond in the Warren County jail, reported Law and Crime.
