Jason Mason: Man threatens 'to stab' cops with potato peeler after assaulting GF who had restraining order against him
NEWCASTLE, ENGLAND: A Newcastle man has been arrested after he threatened the police with a potato peeler after assaulting his girlfriend. Jason Mason, of Dowling Avenue, Whitley Bay got into a fight with his girlfriend, which soon turned ugly and he ended up punching her several times. Jason and the woman he assaulted also have a child together.
According to a Chronicle Live report, Mason's girlfriend had a restraining order against him, but soon their romance rekindled. Omar Ahmad, prosecuting, told the news portal, "On August 24, 2022, the pair went to a shop to get alcohol and returned to her Shiremoor address. Whilst at the address, they argued and the defendant got angry after she had been speaking to a friend. He assaulted her, knocking her drink out of her hand, and then jumped on top of her before punching her five or six times." The woman sustained bruises and swelling on her face after the attack. In the court, she gave a statement saying that she was "terrified" that Mason might kill her and is "worried in case he comes back."

Ahmad said that Mason, who is unemployed, was "verbally berating" the woman for allegedly "playing the victim" in their fights. When the woman tried to escape the assault, she was "dragged" back and pushed by him to the ground.
Their neighbors, who heard the couple's fight, called the police after Mason barricaded himself in a room. Ahmad added, "Police arrived and the defendant shouted out of the window while holding a potato peeler. He was shouting 'I'll kill you,' 'I'll stab you,' and said he had a machete on him. Police then forced entry and arrested him."
Mason and his girlfriend had been in a relationship for nearly three years and had a child together. However, in 2021, the woman ended their relationship after Mason was charged with battery and damage offenses. She also held a restraining order against him in August 2021.
In 2022, even after the restraining order was imposed on Mason, the couple managed to come back together. Earlier this month, Mason was fined for being drunk and disorderly. He had 13 previous convictions for 17 offences and had another restraining order against him by his grandmother after he allegedly damaged her house.
