LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The skilled spy and the ultimate ladies' man, James Bond is one of cinema's most famous icons. Fans have been heavily speculating about who will portray the next James Bond, and the list is endless. The current favorites include the likes of Idris Elba and Tom Holland. On the recent red carpet at the BAFTA, one of the producers of the franchise, Barbara Broccoli, gave an update on who will play the loveable spy in the next installment.

James Bond has been a global phenomenon for over 60 years. In that timeframe, the MI6 agent has been played by a long list of gifted actors, from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig. And who takes the mantle forward has remained one of the perennial questions of world cinema over the decades.

Not yet, James Bond

Ever since Daniel Craig, who played Bond five times, announced his retirement from the role, fans have been speculating about who will be next in line. Now, Barbara Broccoli has provided an answer, according to LADbible. During her appearance on BAFTA red carpet, Barbara was asked the burning question about 'Bond26'. She acknowledged the speculation but replied that there is not even a script yet and added that the casting is yet to begin.

“No, we haven’t even started casting yet. There isn’t even a script," she said.

A 10-year commitment

While the producer's update isn't exactly cheery news for fans, it is hardly surprising. Barbara has previously said that casting for Bond is a 10 to 12-year commitment, one which every actor wants to do. Bond 26, meanwhile, is going in a new direction as double-O-seven is said to be "reinvented."

Based on the series of written works by Ian Fleming, James Bond has so far been portrayed by seven actors - Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. The iconic franchise recently celebrated 60 years of its existence. Further, a documentary that gives deep insight into 'James Bond' music, titled 'The Sound of 007', is now available on Prime Video.
