'It's Okay to Not be Okay' Episode 2: Kang-tae holds on to Moon-young, but will this end well?
'It's Okay to Not be Okay' Episode 1 ended with Kang-tae recalling memories about a friend from the past. A friend that he says is quite similar to Moon-young, especially, the way both of their eyes reflect an endless void. In the upcoming episode, we will see Kang-tae hold on to Moon-young, despite being told that there is no good that will come out of him being around the eccentric, temperamental author.
The promo begins with Sang-tae getting an invite to attend Moon-young's book launch, which makes him extremely happy. In fact, Kang-tae is surprised that this makes his brother so ecstatic. However, things do not seem to go well for the Sang-tae, who seems to have an attack in the middle of a bookstore. We even hear him say that he is being attacked and it seems as if he is reliving the same nightmare that he had in the previous episode. The fear that someone is trying to kill him seems to have resurfaced and this is possibly at the book launch.
Right after, we also see how some kind of problem arises at the book launch because Moon-young addresses Kang-tae as a coward in front of a huge crowd. This is also the reason why we believe Moon-young's publisher goes ballistic. He is in search of her and he wants his assistant to track her down immediately, but what kind of trouble could Moon-young have caused for him to get this angry at one of his best selling authors?
Then we also see Moon-young trying to leave the venue as well as Kang-tae's side. Surprisingly though, he stops and holds on to her. He stops her despite being told that the two of them staying together can only spell bad luck for him and will bring upon conflicts in his life that he is not ready to deal with. From what we have seen so far of Moon-young, she is a complex person who has withdrawn into her own shell as a coping mechanism. Even her allure of sharp objects seems to arise from a need to keep herself safe and secure in a world where she was endangered as a child.
For Kang-tae to get close to her and possibly start something romantic is going to complicate his life further than it already is. With his brother, Kang-tae still seems unable to handle the situation completely. He is unable to figure out the reason why his brother has the nightmares that he does. So to get involved with someone like Moon-young will definitely make things a tad bit more difficult for him.
'It's Okay to Not Be Okay' originally airs on tvN on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 pm KST in South Korea and can be streamed on Netflix.
