HARFORD COUNTY, MARYLAND: As the investigation into the murder of Rachel Morin continues, police warn locals to be aware, stating that ‘someone could be out there’.
The 37-year-old mother-of-five was found dead along the MA & PA Heritage Trail in Bel Air, Maryland, a day after she mysteriously went missing on Saturday, August 5 when she left her house to take a hike.
Was Rachel Morin using multiple dating apps?
Official reports claim that the fitness enthusiast had visited a tanning salon for her routine spray tan on the afternoon of her death.
A source close to the salon told The New York Post that all employees there knew Morin, who told them that she had been using ‘multiple dating apps.’
Despite confessing about using multiple dating sites, Morin had gone official on social media with her new boyfriend Richard Tobin, just days before.
After visiting the salon, she reportedly headed to her neighborhood Planet Fitness before Tobin dropped her off at her house at about 5 pm, according to the outlet.
After that, Morin headed out on the hiking trail, where she was last seen somewhere between 6 to 7 pm.
Later, she was reported missing by Tobin, who told officials that her car was parked near the entrance of the trail. On August 6, her lifeless body was discovered in a drain inside a tunnel on the scenic trail.
Is there a Ma and Pa serial killer?
The medical examiner has not yet revealed the cause of Morin’s death, but officials have launched a homicide investigation into the case.
Providing some details into the investigation, Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler told WBAL that officials believe ‘someone could out be out there’, sparking fears of a potential serial killer.
"We do not have a solid suspect. Not knowing whether this was a targeted event specific to Rachel, we are going to say, yes be aware, be thinking there could be somebody out there,” Gahler said.
Rachel Morin was found completely naked
Local man Michael Gabriszeski, who joined the search for Morin along with his stepdaughter, Cecilia, and her friend, Evan, revealed that when his daughter found her, she was completely naked.
"Cecilia was the first person to see the body. She was hyperventilating really, really bad. And then the police told her to sit down. When she sat down, she realized she was sitting in a big pool of blood. She was laying on her back, fully naked, and she had brutal head trauma...it looked like her head had been smashed in with a rock," he told Daily Mail.
"There was a 15 to 20-foot blood trail. So, it looked like she had been beaten and dragged into that position. It looked like (the killer) was trying to erase her identity. The right side of her face was gone," the father continued.
The young mother had suffered serious head trauma, a source close to the family previously told Daily Mail. "The injuries were so horrific that there won't be an open casket (at her funeral)," the source said.
