TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA: It has been revealed by police that Alabama basketball star and NBA prospect Brandon Miller allegedly provided a handgun to teammate Darius Miles, which was used to kill a woman in Tuscaloosa in January. Tuscaloosa detective Branden Culpepper testified on Tuesday that Miles sent a text message to Miller, following which Miller brought the gun to the two accused, Miles and Michael Lynn Davis. Miller reportedly arrived at the scene and got in touch with Miles, saying "the heat is in the hat" and that there is "one in the head."

Crimson Tide basketball coach Nate Oats said, according to the Daily Mail, "We knew about that. Can't control everything anybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. ... Brandon hasn't been in any type of trouble, nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time." Miller has not been charged in connection with the incident.

Darius Miles charged with capital murder

Miles and Michael Lynn Davis, 20, of Charles county, Maryland, were charged with capital murder after a shooting that killed Jamea Jonae Harris, 23, of the Birmingham area. “At this time, it appears that the only motive was a minor altercation that these individuals had with the victim as they were out on The Strip,” Captain Jack Kennedy of Tuscaloosa Police said at the time, according to The Guardian. The incident took place on January 15.

Kennedy said the driver of another vehicle in which Harris was a passenger came to campus police near Bryant-Denny Stadium at about 1.45 am. They said someone shot into the vehicle and he had to fire back. One of the suspects was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

'Brandon Miller should be charged'

Social media users slammed Miller after the latest update, and many questioned why he is not being charged. Some slammed Otas for his statement. "The best player (Brandon Miller) on a projected No. 1 seed (Alabama) supplied a gun that became the murder weapon in the killing of a young mother. Yikes. Even if he's not charged with a crime, how does that not at least result in a suspension from the basketball team?" one user wrote on Twitter. Another said, "I am a lawyer, Bama fan. Brandon Miller should be charged as an accessory to murder in my opinion. And he absolutely, positively should never have played another minute for Alabama once Nate Oats knew he brought a loaded gun to a player that was used to commit a murder." "Regardless of whether Brandon Miller legally did anything wrong, bringing a gun that resulted in the death of a human being isn't "wrong spot at the wrong time." I'm still flabbergasted Nate Oats actually used those words to describe the situation," said one user.

"It’s very likely that the young lady is alive today had Brandon Miller refused to bring the loaded weapon to his teammate. Guess the wrong place, wrong time guy innocently thought they were going to a gun range for target practice at 1am," one user said, while another wrote, "That so many people think Brandon Miller did nothing wrong, either legally or morally, does a lot to explain why we have such a huge gun violence problem in this country. His actions were, at minimum, wildly irresponsible. It’s horrifying how many folks refuse to see that." "To be clear, if Brandon Miller didn't bring that gun to the scene, a mother would not have been murdered," one wrote.
