PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: The wife of a California doctor accused of allegedly attempting to kill himself, including his wife and two children, by plunging off a cliff in a bid of murder-suicide has urged officials not to prosecute him for his crimes. Miraculously, the family of four survived and was rescued by police on January 2.
However, radiologist Dharmesh Patel's wife, Neha, previously confessed to paramedics that “he intentionally tried to kill us." He was arrested without bail after pleading not guilty to domestic violence and attempted murder charges. Moreover, Dharmesh's attorney, Josh Bentley, told the court on Thursday, February 9, that his client's wife did not want him to face legal charges.

Will Dharmesh Patel be indicted?
Despite Dharmesh's wife hoping the court would not prosecute him for his alleged crimes, the San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney claimed otherwise. Attorney Sean Gallagher alleged that prosecutors "have sufficient evidence to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt" with or without Neha Patel’s cooperation, reported Fox News. The San Mateo County Chief Deputy also highlighted that it's common for domestic violence victims to be unwilling to coordinate. according to KRON4, reported source.
What was Dharmesh Patel's motive?
Dharmesh Patel, 41, his wife Neha Patel, a seven-year-old daughter, and a four-year-old son were on the route south of San Francisco when the doctor drove his Tesla car off a 250-foot cliff at Devil's Slide along the Pacific Coast Highway. They reportedly fell 250 to 300 feet, but miraculously survived and were rescued safely by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and additional emergency personnel.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe explained, “She made that statement when asked, 'What happened? What happened?’ 'He intentionally tried to kill us.' … We have multiple people who heard her say that.” However, Dharmesh's motive behind the callous crime was not revealed. He is also facing child endangerment charges after the pair's four and seven-year-olds were injured yet survived the incident.
'Not her choice'
Internet users were furious at Neha's decision to not have Dharmesh prosecuted, especially after risking their children's lives. One user mocked, “i can fix him.” Another added, "That happens often in domestic violence cases." A third wrote, "Prosecute her. Child endangerment." A fourth chimed, "Not her choice."
