GILA COUNTY, ARIZONA: Hunter Stanfield has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder of parents months after they were killed at their Arizona home. The 19-year-old was arrested on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, following the homicides in October 2022 in Whispering Pines, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office said.

On October 27, the office received a 911 call informing the death of Chase J Stanfield, 39, and Gail M Stanfield, 50, stated Sheriff J Adam Shepherd. The office has not specified how the couple was killed, however, according to a report by Fox News, the victims were shot to death, reported Law and Crime.

What was Stanfield's motive?

Following the double murder, investigators executed search warrants for weeks and months which led to Hunter's interrogation and arrest on Monday. The sheriff said, "Sheriff Shepherd would like to thank the Gila County Attorney’s Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety for their coordinated efforts in this investigation," and added, "I am thankful to the Detectives that have worked this case non-stop to follow all leads, collect and evaluate all evidence. This was a time-consuming investigation and the detective’s dedication to the community and justice should be commended."

'You still did it, mom'

Sharing a posthumous degree that Gail Stanfield received in December, her daughter Ashely posted a picture of the certificate from Grand Canyon University and wrote, "You still did it, mom. I wish I could hug you and tell you in person how proud we all are of you but I know you can hear."

Gail was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology-Applied Behavioral Analysis, as shown on her Facebook page.

In another emotional note shared in February, Ashely wrote, "Mom, Not a single moment goes by that I don’t miss you and chase. My heart breaks every day the moment I open my eyes and the reality hits like a wave again and again," and added, "I miss our daily conversations. I miss yours and chases hugs. There’s so many great things happening I wish I could tell you about. I miss you. I love you." In her Facebook post in June 2018, Gail shared that she and Chase were getting engaged. The couple got married in October 2018.
