How did Rex Heuermann's family react after returning to their Long Island home? Investigators say more sex workers have come forward
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK: The family of Rex Heuermann, the man who is accused of killing women along the Gilgo Beach, returned to their house on Thursday. Investigators searched the house for 12 days using excavators and thermal cadaver dogs and a ground-penetrating radar machine.
The family was greeted by reporters who tried to ask them questions, but they refused to talk, several outlets noted. Asa Ellerup, Heuermann’s wife who filed for divorce last week, and Christopher, her son from a previous marriage, had been staying in a hotel while police dug up their backyard and found a secret vault in their basement.
How did Rex Heuermann's family react after returning to their Long Island home?
They looked around their home and yard where police had removed evidence and left a large hole. “Don’t talk to me,” Ellerup said, according to Fox 5. Her son also told the reporters to stay away. "Don’t even say a word,” he said. The videos showed his family members seemingly very angry at the reporters even once showing a middle finger to a reporter who moves in so to try get a good frame. His son in blue t-shirt supported his forehead with his hand in apparent tension.
Heuermann, a 59-year-old architect and father of two, was arrested on July 14 outside the Manhattan office. He subsequently pleaded not guilty to killing three women. He is also treated as a prime suspect in a fourth murder found in 2011 along Long Island stretch collectively dubbed as 'Gilgo Four'.
Police say DNA evidence links him to the crimes. Police are investigating whether Heuermann killed any of his victims in his home while his family was away. They looked for any items that he might have kept as "trophies or souvenirs" from the women he allegedly killed.

One of them, Nicole Brass, who spoke earlier has said she escaped from Heuermann after he talked about the bodies of women found at Gilgo Beach. Heuermann is being held without bail at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility. He is on suicide watch and in protective custody as other inmates have reportedly marked him as a target. Toulon further said that Heuermann gets recreation time alone and is able to make phone calls and receive mails while being held without bail at the facility.
