Contains spoilers and speculation for 'House of the Dragon' Season 2

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 6 aired on HBO on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

The epic action saga took a shocking turn when Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) was injured by his brother,  Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell), during the Battle of Rook's Rest.

Aegon is left severely injured, with burns covering much of his body and multiple broken bones. Likely, he will never recover fully and return to his irreverent, brash self who once dismissed the world around him and lived life on his terms.

This season has been particularly tough for Aegon II, starting with the death of his child Jaehaerys in the first episode and now compounded by his severe injury and loss of position, as Aemond takes over as Prince Regent.

Aegon II is in desperate need of an ally, and it appears he has found a long-term supporter.

Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) is a character born with a twisted foot, giving him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those with physical disabilities.

Despite his physical limitations, Larys Strong has made a significant impact and outlived his brother, Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr), who was renowned as one of the strongest men in the Seven Kingdoms.

Larys Strong has navigated a life of mockery and adversity due to his disability since birth. Following an insult from Aemond at the Green Council, Larys appears determined to become an ally to Aegon.

Aegon spends nine out of ten hours asleep due to the medication prescribed by the Grand Maester to numb his pain.

However, Larys Strong advises him to avoid the potions, warning that they could have detrimental effects on his mind.

Larys tells Aegon that his greatest asset now is his mind, and his biggest strength lies in people underestimating him due to his physical limitations.

So far, Larys Strong has been portrayed with a sinister edge, but in this scene, we gain insight into his backstory, revealing a man who, shaped by a harsh world, was forced to develop a defense mechanism to survive.

According to the source material, 'Fire & Blood' by George R Martin, Aegon will return to the Iron Throne with Larys Strong playing a significant role.

Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) will ascend to the throne as King's Landing falls into her and Daemon Targaryen's control.

Aegon is helped by Larys to escape King's Landing as Rhaenyra launches a frantic search for him. However, Rhaenyra’s rule over King's Landing is short-lived due to a riot that erupts in the city.

Aegon returns to the throne after killing Rhaenyra with the help of Larys Strong. He then feeds Rhaenyra to Sunfyre.

According to the book, the relationship takes a dark turn when Larys Strong becomes one of the conspirators in the plot to poison and kill Aegon II.

Larys Strong, along with Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and Ser Perkin the Flea, conspired against Aegon II. Their concern was that if Aegon remained on the throne, the war would drag on for much longer.
