'Hightown' Episode 6: Does Krista's death ruin Jackie's friendship with Junior?
After hunting her down for days and weeks, when fish cop Jackie Quinones (Monica Raymund) finally tracked down Krista Collins (Crystal Lake Evans), we saw how brutally Osito (Atkins Estimons) took her life just because she posed a threat to her business. Jackie wanted to save Krista as a sort of a redemptive respite for finding Sherry Henry's murdered body washed up on the show. But it's not long before she finds out that her one lead to solving Sherry's murder — which has been haunting her since day one — is also gone.
Not to forget, Jackie's closest friend Junior McCarthy (Shane Harper) was with Osito when the henchman ended Krista's life with repeated blows of a hammer to her face. And if the synopsis for the coming episode is to be trusted, it looks like doing Frankie Cuevas's (Amaury Nolasco) dirty work is really going to end badly for Junior.
Episode 6 titled 'The White Whale' entails "Jackie and Junior struggle to cope in the wake of a traumatic event. Ray's investigation picks up speed. Ray is there for Renee when she really needs him." We are happy for detective Ray Abruzzo (James Badger Dale) getting his game on with his confidential informant and Frankie's baby mama, Renee (Riley Voelkel). His investigation picking up speed is also a positive sign, now that he has sought Jackie's help officially. But it is Jackie, grappling with her sobriety that we are concerned about. Jackie, and Junior both, in fact.
So far Junior has consistently tried to nip Jackie's leads in the bud, for obvious reasons. So when she enthused about having finally found Krista, who was the only one to have seen Osito shoot Sherry in the head, Junior couldn't take chances. He is in charge of dumping dead bodies in the ocean, and it was his screw up that Sherry's body washed up ashore. He is already on a tight leash with Frankie and his men, and Osito is just giving him a grace period to earn enough credit to prove his value and loyalty. The trauma of this has to be intense, and if not more, probably as intense as Jackie beginning to spiral once again under all the alcohol she is copiously indulging in.
Jackie's one shot at a happily ever after with Devonne (Gia Crovatin) also fell apart because of this very case she was chasing. From drinking to substance abuse, Jackie's sobriety is gone for a toss clearly so it goes to be seen how she will handle finding out about Krista's death; most importantly, will it allow her to see the wrong places she has been confiding in? With Junior's indiscretions this close to Jackie's redemption, the two worlds can collide and blow up any time — something that the two's friendship just might not be able to survive.
