'He gave me life': Patients rally online for justice after top neurosurgeon Devon Hoover is found dead at home
MICHIGAN, DETROIT: As the mystery surrounds the death of a top neurosurgeon, Devon Hoover, from Michigan, Detroit, his patients and loved ones have rallied on the internet to seek justice. With the outpouring of grief on social media a group named "Justice for Dr Devon Hoover" on Facebook has also been created with over a thousand members joining in as several among those who had been Hoover's patients narrating the kind of man he was with a skill set giving patients their life.
The 53-year-old Hoover was found dead during a welfare check at his home on West Boston Boulevard in Detroit’s historic Boston-Edison District on Sunday, April 23. Hoover who reportedly was single lived alone at his expansive house where he was found wrapped in a plastic sheet in the attic. His car was also found at a different location, authorities revealed.

'Hoover was the best'
Mary Anne Clifton Russo a realtor posted in the group stating neurosurgeon, "As patients we will miss the safeness we felt with an experienced physician!". She narrated how she was told that she had a brain tumor which after consultation with Hover was proved wrong. "It was thought I had a brain tumor. My neurologist said Dr Hoover was the best and he was not like most surgeons. He said he would not operate unless it was absolutely necessary."
She continued in the group post, "I was scared, nervous, and crying when I went to his office. He sat down with me for almost an hour and went through each of my MRIs past, and present. He told me this is not a tumor it was a scar on the right frontal lobe of my brain. He order another MRI which confirmed what he said." She added, "Always so wonderful, knowledgeable, and supportive."
'I am devastated, as all of you are'
Lynn Anderson Frech, a woman who originally lives in Detroit wrote, "I’m devastated, as all of you are. Has anyone heard of a possible suspect? It’s a mystery as to why this person or persons would take the time to wrap Dr Hoover in a sheet and take him to the attic. I doubt a random burglar would do this. Thoughts?" Dana Renee who fractured their neck in a 2007 car accident was taken to the St Johns Detroit via ambulance where Hoover was on call. After drilling holes in the neck, Renee demanded a diet coke, but it was Hoover who bought it for her from the vending machine. The small gesture has remained with Reene ever since as for her, "He was kind, compassionate, and healing. He took such good care of me, so much so that I walked down the aisle and got married 6 months after my accident."
'I am alive today because of this man'
Pete Guevara, one of Hoover's patients who is battling a brain tumor said, "He gave me life." Guevara said, "Dr Hoover done 3 surgery’s on my brain. I’m alive today because of this man." Petrified over his mysterious death, he continued in the post, "This is horrible. I don’t know if I could ever trust someone else to do this surgery." Guevara said, "I loved Doctor Hoover. I met him 20 years ago. I even teased him about looking so young for a brain surgeon. I asked if his dad was the surgeon and he snuck into his dad's office."
He continued, "He was so nice all of the time I could tell he really cared for me. I’ve been battling cancer (brain tumor with him for 20 years. We were like old buddies that had to see each every six months. I’m sure going to miss him. Prayers for the family and friends and patients. Great man that didn’t deserve this. Can’t imagine battling my cancer without him anymore. Thank you for your service to humanity."
'I’ve lost my very best friend'
Carol Rodgers Gove another member wrote, I’ve lost my very best friend!." Sheryl Gibbs Leaver a patient wrote along with a picture with Hoover, "I am heartbroken. I insisted on a picture after my surgery because I was so grateful to him." Jen Renee who declared that she was an employee at Ascension and that her husband who Hoover operated for back surgery had become friends said, "He was such a kind & giving man who was an asset to the medical field. Being a neurosurgeon wasn't his only gift. He had the ability to see the good in all things, and will truly be missed. I pray they find who took it upon themselves to take this man’s life." She also wrote about Hoover's dog, "I pray for his precious dog, who is left without her best friend."
