‘Mare of Easttown’: Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about HBO's dramedy starring Kate Winslet
It has been a decade since we saw Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce star together in ‘Mildred Pierce’. Now the two extremely talented actors are sharing the screen once again in HBO’s ‘Mare of Easttown’. In the series, Winslet plays Mare Sheehan, a small-time detective in the titular Pennsylvania town, whose life falls to pieces as she investigates a murder. Winslet however makes it clear that she would be a terrible sleuth in real life.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Winslet said, "I’d be an (expletive) lousy detective. I’d be very good at the coffee and the beers, definitely. I don’t think I have the mental stamina that is required. I have the stamina, but in a different way."

HBO’s official synopsis dubs ‘Mare of Easttown’, “an exploration into the dark side of a close community and an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present.” Well if you love Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce and a good murder mystery, then here's all that you need to know about 'Mare of Easttown'.
Release date
On Wednesday, February 10, morning, HBO announced that its seven-part series 'Mare of Easttown' will premiere on Sunday, April 18 at 10 pm ET. Each episode will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
Plot
Winslet plays Mare Sheehan, a small-time investigator who is investigating a murder in her small, close-knit rural town while struggling to keep her personal life intact. Guy Pearce who replaces actor Ben Miles in the 'Mare of Easttown' due to scheduling conflicts will play the role of Richard Ryan. Richard Ryan is a visiting creative writing professor who won a National Book Award 25 years ago but has not lived up to his potential since. We're keen to see Pearce's take on the role.
Cast
Kate Winslet
Kate Winslet turns executive producer for the first time in 'Mare of Easttown'. Winslet also stars in the series as a small-time detective, struggling to keep her personal life intact while investigating a murder. Winslet is an actor par excellence but she admits that she has had her challenges with this role.
Winslet, talking about the role, says, "She’s nothing like me — that’s pretty scary in a great way if you’re an actor that likes to feel terrified and exposed.I just have never done anything like this and was excited to read something that gripped me right away. I really felt the sense of not only who she was but the world she lived in and comes from; that sense of community; being so entrenched in a society that you sort of forget who you are from time to time.”
In order to get into character, Winslet spent several months in Easttown, which is a real spot on the map, and one of her toughest tasks was getting a grip on the local accent. Well, we've seen Kate pull off accents including a German one in 'The Reader' so we're sure she'll have this down pat as well.
Guy Pearce
Guy Pearce, of course, reunites with Kate Winslet for the first time after 'Mildred Pierce'. Both Pearce and Winslet won Emmy awards for their roles in 'Mildred Pierce' in 2011. Pearce has replaced 'The Crown' actor Ben Miles in 'Mare of Easttown'. Let's hope Guy Pearce and Kate Winslet re-create their award-winning streak with 'Mare of Easttown', which sees Pearce play a visiting creative writing professor looking to live up to his former glory as an award-winning novelist.
Creators
'Mare of Easttown' has been created by Brad Ingelsby who is also the showrunner for the show. Craig Zoben will direct all episodes of the show.
