Is 'Paradise' coming back for season 3? Everything we know about the sci-fi drama series' future
With the recent premiere of 'Paradise' Season 2 on Hulu, the narrative finally seems to be moving out from the nuclear bunker and into the post-apocalyptic remains of the world. The second season premiered with the first three episodes together on Monday. The theme followed Sterling K. Brown's Xavier venturing outside the survival bunker in search of his wife, whom he had previously believed was dead. Furthermore, Season 2 introduced new characters played by Thomas Doherty and Shailene Woodley, as well as flashbacks of James Marsden's President Cal and John Beavers' Billy.
'Paradise' creator Dan Fogelman had originally planned a three-season arc for the Hulu show. With the debut season having previously made waves and the ongoing sophomore season shaping up towards a promising mid-season, a potential third season will be most suited to the overall narrative. It must be noted that Hulu hasn't officially renewed 'Paradise' for a third season yet, but one might hope that a renewal is soon on the cards. Speaking in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 'Paradise' executive producer and writer John Hoberg opened up about the writing process, the crux of the second season, and the future of the Hulu show.
When asked about the buildup towards Season 2's finale and the consequences such a narrative arc might have for the third season, Hoberg mentioned, "It is setting up that there’s a lot of things going on in two different places. And if I were a viewer, I would wonder if those two different things might come together at some point."
He was then asked about the narrative crux of the story around which the sophomore season revolves, "This season is about: Do you believe that things happen for a reason, or is it chance? It’s a big, emotional question. It’s almost a religious question; a philosophical question. What do you believe? We want the audience to think about, What do these nosebleeds mean? Is that a coincidence? Is it not? That’s really important for us, especially in these first three episodes. Where do you land on what’s going on? Is your Spidey sense going up a little bit? It might not. You might be right for it not to, and you might be right for it going up."
When asked about a potential Season 4, Fogelman said, "We know what the end is, and it’s an end that would make it very difficult to make a season four come afterward." For now, it looks like Hoberg and Fogelman might have plotted the third season way in advance. But they must wait for Hulu to officially greenlight it before pre-production can move forward. A streaming platform such as Hulu typically considers viewership statistics and other factors before renewing a show. Nevertheless, given the popularity of 'Paradise', one might certainly hope for the best. 'Paradise' Season 2 airs new episodes every Monday on Hulu.
