Harold Lavance Thompson: Texas man fatally shoots girlfriend for going to Colorado for abortion
DALLAS, TEXAS: A Texas man reportedly killed his girlfriend for going to a different state for an abortion, Dallas authorities have said. According to a Dallas County arrest warrant, officers were called to a parking lot on Wednesday, May 10, after Gabriella Gonzalez, 26, was fatally shot.
Harold Lavance Thompson was caught in the surveillance video walking alongside her just prior to the shooting. Police said that Thompson tried to put Gonzalez in a chokehold but she escaped. The warrant states that he then pulled out his firearm and shot Gonzalez in the head.

Thompson fled from the scene after shooting
As per the court documents, Thompson fired several shots, aiming at her when she fell to the ground, before fleeing the scene. Multiple witnesses, including Gonzalez's sister informed the authorities that they saw him trying to strangle Gonzalez before hearing the fatal gun shots.
What did the warrant say?
The warrant says that the duo were in a relationship. There was "an active family violence strangulation warrant" from a March incident in which "Gonzalez was the victim," court documents said, reports ABC7 Chicago. "Further investigation revealed that (Gonzalez) went to Colorado to get an abortion and returned the night before. It is believed that the suspect was the father of the child. The suspect did not want the complainant to get an abortion," said the warrant. "Thompson was arrested after the execution of the search warrant and declined to give a statement," said court documents. Dallas County Jail records show that Thompson is charged with murder and assault of a family/household member/impeding breath or circulation.
Texas father has been found guilty of capital murder
MEAWW previously reported that a Texas man was found guilty of capital murder in the fatal shooting of three teenagers by his then-14-year-old son. A jury in Dallas convicted Richard Acosta, 34, of capital murder on Friday, February 10, 2023, for his involvement in the triple homicide of Xavier Gonzalez, 14; Ivan Noyala, 16; and Rafael Garcia, 17, the day after Christmas in 2021. A 15-year-old newly hired cook, who got injured in the shooting, has recovered.
Acosta had previously testified that he did not know his son Abel Acosta had a gun or had shot anyone and claimed that the teenager had got into his vehicle and told his father to drive away because someone was shooting, according to the New York Post. Abel disappeared shortly after the fatal shootings. Authorities said that the teenager remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Meanwhile, prosecutors debated that the father sought to do away with the evidence as well as tried to shift his family from Garland. In conclusion, the jury rejected Acosta's testimony.
