'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 Episode 6: With the ice breaking between them, will Zola finally accept Andrew DeLuca?

Zola snaps at Andrew DeLuca in the latest episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' and tells him, "You're not my dad!"
UPDATED NOV 1, 2019

With girlfriend Meredith Grey battling it out in jail and her daughter Zola giving him cold vibes, Andrew DeLuca is not having an easy time. In the latest episode of 'Grey's Anatomy', DeLuca tries to help Zola with her winged Halloween costume and she snubs him saying, "You're not my dad!"

An upset DeLuca later vents to Jackson during surgery. Apart from getting only eight minutes to speak with Meredith, he's a bit roughed up by Zola's behavior.  However, later in the episode, Maggie leaves Zola in his charge at the hospital.

Zola vanishes for a while, and DeLuca finds her in another corner of the hospital and the two have a heart-to-heart talk. DeLuca asks her if he upset her by asking to help with the wings and Zola answered that the wings were special to her, as Derek had fixed them for her just before his death.

Zola snubs DeLuca in a scene from 'Grey's Anatomy'

Zola tells DeLuca, "I don't want to forget him." DeLuca comforts Zola and says that she will never forget him and neither will anyone else, as he was a legend.

The ice is broken between the two, and DeLuca tells Zola the story of how her star surgeon of a father had once saved lab tech Isaac, who had a massive tumour on his spine. Yet, Derek managed to cut out most of the tumor.

Going by this episode, Zola seems to be assured that DeLuca is not taking Derek's place in any way and that he has a separate place in Meredith's life.

The episode ends with Meredith returning home from jail, and the kids running to her in happiness. The current equation is not stressed upon between Meredith and DeLuca in the episode as yet.

The two have already had their fair share of tiffs for the season, as DeLuca was not impressed with Meredith’s impulsive and rash decision-making, and her ability to self-destruct at the drop of a hat.

The mention of Derek in the episode has made fans quite emotional.

One fan noted that 'My dad fixed my wings before he died' was one of the most emotional scenes for them. Another added that they miss seeing Derek and Zola together.

The sixth episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' titled 'Whistlin' Past The Graveyard' aired on ABC on October 31.
