'Greenleaf' Season 5 Episode 6: Lady Mae's big Grace reveal has fans saying she's driving her children to drink

Sometimes it's not just about the size of the secret, it's about how you drop it and excuse yourself from further confrontations and clarifications surrounding it

Lady Mae is a work of art when it comes to sass and shade and when you have birthed three very messy, royally complex children, that seems natural. Be it the way she calls out her own children for choosing the wrong partner, or someone else over their family, or the way she snubs down external forces trying to come at her, her house, or her kids — Lady Mae is an icon made better by Lynn Whitfield's articulate portrayal of the anti-heroine in the OWN show.

But in the latest Episode 6 of Season 5, Lady Mae does the ultimate reveal after her ex-husband disses her for trying to chastise her son's infidelity. However, it's a secret we already knew, so there was no new information to gain from it. It's just the way Lady Mae dropped it to the entire family and then walked off as if she didn't just admit one of her kids has a different father in front of all of her children and grandchildren. No wonder fans think it's Lady Mae who drove her kids to drinking.

As the whole Jacob and Kerissa (Kim Hawthorne) relationship reaches its expiry date, Lady Mae tells her son to marry someone he is in love with the next time so he doesn't end up cheating on them. The Bishop (Keith David) however feels this is rich coming from her, after all Grace (Merle Dandridge) is her child from an affair with Bishop Lionel Jefferies. True, Bishop James has forgiven his wife for her past indiscretions but the saltiness hasn't left him. So Lady Mae decides to end the secrecy by revealing it to everyone.

She waits until Kerissa has left the house with her son from another man and as the rest of the Greenleafs are waiting on the front porch, Lady Mae casually reveals Grace's real father is Lionel. She then turns around, says dinner is at 7.30, and walks back into the house as if the pre-dinner time notification didn't happen.

This has left fans stumped. "Lady Mae got the children drinking," quipped a fan on Twitter about the nonchalance shown by the character. "Leave it to Lady Mae to drop a bomb on the family and in the very next breath go on with business as usual," noted another. Some fans were also concerned, "So now that everyone knows lady mae secret how long is it gonna take for charity so SOMEHOW make it about her?"

Others find it unfair on Grace, as "Gigi son is finally starting to act right and now Lady Mae wanna embarrass her by admitting that she is a product of her wh*redom with her husband’s best friend?" But as much as they loved the Bishop calling out her admonishment, the unanimous verdict is "Lady Mae is the QUEEN of shade."

'Greenleaf' Season 5 airs on Tuesdays at 9 pm only on OWN.
