Golden Globes 2021: 'Minari' wins Best Motion Picture Foreign Language, Internet says it won 'in the wrong category'
The most controversial category for the year's Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language has announced the winner and no prize for guessing that ‘Minari’, the 2020 American drama directed by Lee Isaac Chung is taking home the trophy. While the fans have earlier taken to Twitter to express their disappointment for not including the movie under the Best Film main category, the sheer brilliance of the film remains undisputed.
'Minari' was nominated alongside some of the most critically acclaimed films of the year including 'La Llorna', 'Another Round', 'The Life Ahead' and 'Two of Us'. 'Minari' follows the story of a South Korean immigrant family in America in quest of a better life and the star-studded cast of the film includes South Korean-American actor Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh-Jung, and Will Patton. Premiered on January 26, 2020, at Sundance Film Festival, the film has won both the US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the US Dramatic Audience Award previously.

The win for 'Minari'is truly a bitter-sweet one for fans. While the win is much deserved, the majority of the fans are of the opinion that 'Minari' portrayed as the American film drama should have stood in the main film category. A user noted, "Never thought the word "USA" and "Best Motion Picture Foreign Language" would go together but here we are." Another user shared, "I have so many feelings about this. It’s great to win but does it require being “foreign” to do it? *sigh*" A user outraged, 'korean is one of the many languages spoken in the US bc there is no "american language" so mfs defending this obvs racist nomination bc "iTS fOReIGn lAnGUAgE" are fu*king stupid :)" A similar tweet read, "Being from the (USA) and still being considered Foreign sums up the Asian American experience very well actually!" Another user mocked, saying, "minari winning but in the wrong category"
