What did the District Attorney say about the ruling?
The Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascan’s Office made a press release on Thursday, September 28, quoting the District Attorney's announcement, “Today, justice has been served for Amie Harwick and her loved ones who have endured unimaginable pain throughout this terrible ordeal.”
The attorney further said, “Our thoughts and support remain with them as they begin to heal. I want to commend the diligent work and dedication of the prosecution team from the Major Crimes Division who worked to secure this conviction.”
Pursehouse’s attorney said he struggled to move forward after the breakup with Amie. Robin Bernstein-Lev, who was representing him in court said, "He can't get past this, and it demolishes him to have to acknowledge this to her," as his client’s texts and voicemails to Harwick were played for the jury, reports ABC7.
He added, "He's not manipulating her. He's revealing his darkest secret to her." The killing took place on Valentine’s Day in 2020, just when Harwick made her way to her Hollywood Hills home after a night out with friends at a burlesque show.
Why did Gareth Pursehouse throw Amie Hawick from the balcony?
According to the investigator's report presented in court, Pursehouse held Harwick inside her home and strangled her. He then dragged her to the third-floor balcony after he got frightened by her roommate’s scream for help and threw her over the ledge.
Harwick was barely breathing after the 20-feet fall. She died two hours later in a hospital after sustaining brain and liver damage among other injuries, as per Law and Crime.

Her ex-fiance Drew Carey reacted to the loss on an episode of ‘The Talk @ Home,’ “After Amie’s murder, I took a week off. Really, I couldn’t function,” the ‘Price is Right’ host said, per People.
“My first day back we taped the high school show for ‘Kids Week.’ It was all high school kids. It was my very first show back, and everybody knew what happened to me. And so I took time during the break to talk to these kids,” he recalled.
Carey also said, “I wish he never did it. I wish he never met her,” Carey continued. He added, “I really try to practice instant forgiveness and unconditional love. The closest you can get to that, the better you are.”
