‘House of the Dragon’: ‘GoT’ fans skeptical if prequel can top 'greatest opening credits of all time'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Game of Thrones’ was one of the finest historical period dramas ever made and became a landmark in television history. The Emmy award winning series became a fan-favorite over the years, but its finale season 8’s ending was deemed as abrupt and awful, which ignited anger from ‘GoT’ fans around the world. Nevertheless, the show still has a global fan base. Now that the prequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ is finally going to drop on August 21, 2022 on both HBO and HBO Max, comparisons are bound to be made, especially by the fans.
Before the highly anticipated series airs, a fan’s tweet has gone viral on social media. The tweet was posted by the fan account 'Out of context house of the dragon' on August 17. The tweet’s caption read, “Game of Thrones has the greatest opening credits of all time, can House of the Dragon top THIS? #HouseoftheDragon.”

‘House of the Dragon’ revolves around the biggest and nastiest civil war in the traditional Westeros world which triggers the moment ruling king Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) spills the beans about officially naming his only daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock / Emma D’Arcy) the potential future ruler / queen who would be inheriting the iron throne of Westeros. He takes this decision not taking his younger brother Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) into consideration. This sparks off an ugly, gore-filled war in the Targaryen family where everyone is pitted against each other, including the dragons who also fight against the humans and each other.
The story’s crux is the journey of Rhaenyra inheriting the throne against the traditionally backward Westeros society that also includes her once bestfriend Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) who fears that if Rhaenyra comes into power, she is going to create her own rules and legacy and nothing will be the same ever again.
