Netflix’s 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' mesmerized the world years after the superhit animated series with the same title aired on Nickelodeon. In 2024, Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Prince Zuko in their live-action avatars immediately became a sensation. The show reached the top 10 in many countries, which led to a renewal announcement. The saga will now move forward with the sophomore installment, where the group will venture into the Earth Kingdom. This storyline is adapted from the animated series. The group travels into the Earth Kingdom to find the Earth King and align with him in the fight against Fire Lord Ozai. In the animated series, the show's most memorable instances occurred in this setting. One of them is the arrival of Toph Beifong, who eventually becomes a mainstay in the series. The earthbending prodigy's captivating personality and her deep friendship with Aang are pivotal to the saga. Azula is also expected to have a larger presence in this season due to her growing influence in the Fire Nation. The trailer for the latest installment is already out, and fans cannot wait to witness the adventures of Aang and his friends (new and old) on 25 June 2026. Here are the characters that will grace the Four Nations in June.

Gordon Cormie as Aang

Gordon Cormie played Aang in the first season of 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' and will continue to do so in the upcoming installment. During an interview with Award Radar, Cormie shared his expectations about Aang's future. "This is all theoretical, because I don’t have any of the scripts yet. But I really want Aang to realize, from beginning to end, that he’s the Avatar. I want to see him taking care of his responsibilities. But who knows? The writers are very smart and creative; they might find something new to do. Or they might do exactly what I guessed. It’s all up in the air," he said. If the season follows the storyline set by the original animated series, Aang will come across Toph, who will eventually become a vital part of his life and saga as a whole.

Kiawentiio as Katara

Canadian Mohawk actress Kiawentiio will play waterbender Katara and embark into Earthland with Aang. Fans are looking forward to another showdown between Zuko and Katara in the upcoming season. As with the original animated series, the Netflix adaptation also had fans swooning over the chemistry shared between these two enemies. Though the animated series took a different route, fans are hopeful that the streamer's adaptation will give in to fan demands. Kiawentiio has always remained coy whenever asked about the fan-favorite pairing. Kiawentiio enjoyed her experience in the show, especially bonding with her fellow castmates. "With playing Katara, meeting the other cast members and becoming family with them, that is something that we are locked in for life," she said to Today. "We’ve talked about this before; we’re gonna be at each other’s weddings type thing. I’m so grateful to have that, a second family formed forever."

Miya Cech as Toph

Miya Cech will appear in the role of fan-favorite Earthbender Toph. She did not appear in the first season of the show and is possibly the character fans are most looking forward to in the sophomore installment. The blind earthbender is the only one in the world to practice metalbending. She eventually becomes Aang's earthbending teacher, using unique methods to instruct her pupil. Due to certain circumstances, Toph will also travel with the group to seek the Earth King and eventually become a key part of their plans. Cech shared that the adaptation's version will be slightly different than the animated series. "She's a little bit older, so she's not a little kid anymore," she said to Direct. "She is still that same spitfire, spunky character who gets to call a certain character 'Twinkle Toes.' I think there are going to be a lot of things that the fans are going to remember from the animated series and a lot of things that are brand new."

Ian Ousley as Sokka

Ian Ousley will return as Sokka. Katara's older brother and Aang's friend, Sokka, will accompany them in their search for the Earth King. The first season saw Sokka lose Yue, his girlfriend in the war to protect the Northern Water Tribe. The actor teased at the Calgary Expo that this loss will fundamentally change him. "I think also [it] just messes with him as he's prepared for war so much and seeing the loss of it and how his responsibility was to protect Yue. He didn't accomplish his goal of protecting Yue, which wasn't his decision, but, yeah, I think that's going to open up a lot more reality for Sokka. I'm very excited to see how we focus on his humor and his relationships in the future," he said as per Collider.

Elizabeth Yu as Princess Azula

Elizabeth Yu portrayed Princess Azula briefly in the show's first season. She takes on a much larger role in the upcoming installment. In the series, she eventually becomes the biggest thorn in the side of the Avatar gang. The second season, like the animated show, will see her going on the lookout for her banished brother Zuko on her father's orders. “I’m a huge fan of the original series. I watched a lot of reruns growing up, and then I rewatched it multiple times. When I found out what I was auditioning for, I wanted to translate into the live-action version with Azula is the internal struggle that she has at the end of the animated series," Yu shared about the role to Style Caster. "When we look at the full first season, we’re planting the seeds for what comes later with her. She’s not so different from Zuko as you might think. I love the internal monologue that she may have at any given moment, and we see this new side of her that we have never seen before. It was really cool to delve into that side of her.”

Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko

Dallas Liu won hearts as brooding antihero Prince Zuko. The Fire Nation's prince spent the first season looking for Aang to regain his former glory and end his exile. Ultimately, he fails in this pursuit, and the Northern Water Tribe delivers a brutal defeat to his Fire Nation army. In the sophomore installment, he will continue to hunt Aang along with his Uncle Iroh, though the situation is now a bit complicated as he has lost the backing of his kingdom. He will also have to contend with his ambitious sister Azula, who wants to capture his crown.

Paul Sun-Hyung as Uncle Iroh

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee will return as wise Uncle Iroh in the sophomore season. The first season captured many of Uncle Iroh's iconic moments, like him singing the lullaby 'Leaves from the Vine' for his dead son's soul. The uncle-son duo have now become fugitives and will eventually cross paths with the Avatar gang. The sophomore season is expected to reveal more of his backstory, like his past as the Fire Kingdom's general and how his son's death changed his philosophy. His bond further deepens with his nephew through several instances.

Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai

Daniel Dae Kim will continue to wreak havoc as Fire Lord Ozai. His military campaign is what forces the Avatar gang to seek the Earth King. To fulfill his objective of dominating all four nations, Ozai will also unleash his manipulative daughter in the lives of Aang and his friends. Danie Dae Kim believes his character is similar to many people in the current political landscape. “I really enjoyed exploring this idea that he was so unapologetic about the things that he believed in,” the actor shared with EW. “It actually reminded me a little bit of our political landscape today because there are certain people who take such extreme positions without apology and with the understanding that their position is the only correct position." Ozai also has a huge decision looming in his hands. "In his own way, he believes he is parenting the best way he knows how. He is trying to groom his son to be a successor, and he's seeing that his daughter is naturally equipped to succeed him. So he's trying to figure out who is going to lead this nation into the future,” Kim explained.
