In 'Franklin' Episode 5, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Edward Bancroft (Daniel Mays), Temple Franklin (Noah Jupe), and Gilbert du Motier (Theodore Pellerin) gather to discuss the upcoming strategy to help America gain victory over England.

As America faces challenges of low manpower and provisions, Temple and Gilbert propose attacking the major ports of England, forcing them to defend their coasts while snatching away their ability to send additional soldiers and ships to American land.

Though the idea faces outright rejection from John Adams, Benjamin and Temple continue to believe in doing what the English would have least expected.

Later in the episode, Edward Bancroft leaks Franklin's next move to the English spy. The betrayal once again endangers America's standing in the war as the newfound information would enable England to prepare for the upcoming attack.

Meanwhile, it would also endanger Temple's life as the mission is now heavily compromised while he sets sail to join the war. Amid the mounting tension, Franklin is most likely to suspect treason in the upcoming episode.

As his destiny remains uncertain, he confronts challenges not just from American diplomat John Adams but also from a mounting array of adversaries.
