CONCH KEY, FLORIDA: A Conch Key man, who was reportedly under the influence of methamphetamine, was apprehended on charges of attempted murder after shooting at his roommate. Peter Anthony Capurro, 57, was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office following a brief standoff.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the perpetrator initially contacted authorities to report an alleged burglary at his residence on West Conch Avenue around 10.45 pm on Tuesday, August 29. However, no evidence of a burglary was found. 

Capurro made false claims even after authorities had left

Capurro’s 27-year-old female roommate later claimed that Capurro continued to intake methamphetamine and make false claims about the imaginary burglar even after law enforcement had left. He allegedly fired a handgun at his roommate on Wednesday at around 2.30 am, forcing her to flee the premises. 

Capurro turned himself into law enforcement after a standoff without further incident. He was taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon and then to jail.

What charges does Capurro face?

According to Local10 News, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office retrieved multiple firearms from Capurro’s residence, including a 5.56-caliber rifle, a .22-caliber rifle, a 7.62-caliber rifle, a .357-caliber revolver, a 9 mm handgun, a 12-gauge shotgun, and assorted ammunition. A risk protection order was obtained in response to prevent Capurro from possessing these weapons.

According to jail records, Capurro is facing charges that include attempted felony murder, firing a missile into a dwelling, building, or aircraft and improper exhibit of a firearm or dangerous weapon. He is currently being held without bond.

Florida man caught with cocaine and fentanyl in a cookie jar 

Meaww previously reported that deputies in Florida arrested a 23-year-old man, Larry Chapman, during a traffic stop on Thursday night, August 24. Cops found nearly 9.8 grams of fentanyl hidden in a container labeled "Cookies" in his driver's seat back pocket.

They arrested him around 10.15 pm in the Broward Street and Texas Avenue area, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. He has been booked into the Collier County jail, and is facing charges of fentanyl trafficking and cocaine possession. In addition to the fentanyl, deputies discovered almost 10 grams of cocaine in Chapman's car.

"The DEA says 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be deadly; our deputies recovered nearly 10 grams of this lethal drug during this traffic stop,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said, per NBC. He added, "We are out there every day trying to prevent this poison from entering Collier County."
