POLK COUNTY, FLORIDA: According to a local sheriff's office, a Florida man named Jakob Kite was fired from his position as a law enforcement officer after reportedly leading his former coworkers on a weekend high-speed chase.

The Florida man was arrested after speeding and fleeing deputies in pursuit while driving under the influence, per Click Orlando.

Why was Florida man fired from his job?

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, The 22-year-old Florida man is charged with a plethora of offenses related to the incident on Monday, September 4.

His charges included aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, resisting without violence, fleeing to elude, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, reckless driving, and driving under the influence, as reported by Law & Crime.

In addition, Kite received two separate citations for running two stop signs and four other speeding penalties based on various speed zones.

When officers tried to stop the speeding Florida man

Kite was going over 100 mph soon after midnight, said the sheriff's office, and two deputies attempted to stop the car. The vehicle was clocked at 130 mph in a 45 mph zone at one point.

While deputies were pursuing the vehicle, it collided with a concrete divider on Highway 540A, prompting deputies to ram the vehicle to halt it.

Kite seemed to be driving drunk, according to Sheriff's officers, and his blood alcohol level was 0.035 G/210L.

According to the sheriff's office, Kite resigned after being arrested.

"This kind of driving and reckless behavior is unacceptable for any responsible citizen, let alone a deputy sheriff," as per Click Orlando.

"It is hard to describe how disappointed and angry I am towards Kite’s dangerously stupid behavior. Had he not resigned, he would have been fired," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated.

When was the Florida man hired?

According to the sheriff's office, Kite was hired as a detention deputy trainee in February 2020 and promoted to deputy sheriff in April 2023.
