LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA: A Florida man named Leonel Boffil-Medina received a 12-year prison term for breaking into a hardware business in Spring Hill in 2022.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office responded when the Florida man, 34, broke into the Crowder Bros Ace Hardware in Spring Hill on August 26, 2022, at 4 am.

Florida man used stolen truck for crime

The crime was caught on camera, and it was discovered that Medina forced his way into the store by driving a black pickup truck past the fenced parking lot and into the side of the building.

The Florida man, 34, then continued to grab many firearms and jewelry valued at several thousand dollars before fleeing the scene.

The Ford F-150 was discovered abandoned in the Trillium community off County Line Road in Brooksville.

Detectives confirmed the identity of the vehicle thanks to the damage and the contents of the store that were found inside the truck.

Detectives then discovered that the truck was reported stolen during a robbery that took place at a home in Spring Hill the day before the armed commercial burglary at the Crowder Bros Ace Hardware.

From their inquiries, detectives identified the offender as Leonel Boffil-Medina, a previous occupant of the residence from where the truck was stolen, as per TFP.

Leonel Boffil-Medina was detained in the custody of the Lee County Sheriff's Office after his bond was revoked over an unrelated possession of a concealed weapon charge outside of their jurisdiction.

Hernando County detectives issued an arrest warrant for Boffil-Medina. He was later charged and taken back to Hernando County.

What were the charges against the Florida man?

Boffil-Medina was found guilty on August 28 on charges including armed commercial burglary with possession of a firearm, burglary of a dwelling, and grand theft auto.

Circuit Court Judge Stephen Toner gave him a 12-year term, as per Sun Coast News.
