OSCODA, MICHIGAN: In a significant development, one of southwest Florida's most wanted suspects, 22-year-old Jose Borrego, has been successfully arrested in the state of Michigan.

Authorities confirmed that Jose Borrego was taken into custody on Wednesday, August 23, in Greenbush Township, situated north of Oscoda. The arrest followed a brief foot chase that took place off McGregor Road.

Who is Jose Borrego?

Law enforcement officials had been diligently pursuing Jose Borrego for several weeks after he evaded capture during a previous encounter with police officers.

The Florida man's history as a repeat offender, entangled with criminal activities since the age of 14, made him a high-priority target for investigators.

Jose Borrego's legal troubles escalated when he failed to appear in court following his arrest on charges of "aggravated assault with a deadly weapon" and "possession of a firearm by a felon."

The victims recounted a confrontation in a convenience store with Jose Borrego. Matters escalated when the Florida man brandished a loaded gun at them.

Despite initially asserting no harmful intentions with the firearm, Jose Borrego's actions led to his incarceration for a short period.

Subsequently, the Florida man had been released on bail, pending his upcoming court hearing, which Jose Borrego neglected to attend.

This resulted in the issuance of further charges in Iosco County for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a firearm as a felon.

What is Jose Borrego's criminal history?

This was not the first instance of Jose Borrego's engagement with the law.

The Florida man has previously been arrested nine times for offenses including burglary, theft, fraud, drug-related offenses, and even stealing a car shortly after turning 16.

Notably, Jose Borrego's history includes removing his ankle monitor at one point and fleeing to Miami, where the Florida man was swiftly apprehended on additional criminal charges.

The reasons for Jose Borrego's presence in the Oscoda area remain unclear.

Described as approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall (1.77 m) and weighing around 160 pounds (72.5 kg), Jose Borrego was last known to be residing in North Cape Coral before his arrest.

Individuals possessing any pertinent information regarding Jose Borrego's activities are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.
