Florida man arrested for shooting seven-months pregnant woman, killing unborn child on August 3

PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Authorities in Florida arrested a man for allegedly shooting a pregnant woman and killing the unborn baby on Thursday, August 3.

Dontae Maddox, age 34, was reportedly arrested from The Inn at Boynton Beach, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department.

The suspect entered the lobby, put down his weapon, removed his clothing and waited for police to arrive, according to hotel manager Steven Jairam, who was also the one who saw the incident on surveillance footage, the arrest affidavit stated.

Maddox is being held without bond after being charged with felony firearm possession and attempted first-degree murder, per NTV.

'I didn't want to kill her'

On being arrested, Maddox claimed that he should have killed himself. He reportedly told the police, "I didn't want to kill her; I just gave her what she deserved."

The relationship between Maddox and the woman shot is unknown and has also been redacted in documents. According to Maddox's arrest report, he is not married.

Before 8 am on Thursday, officers arrived at the hotel off Boynton Beach Boulevard. They were informed by dispatch that a woman had been shot and the suspect was in the lobby.

The woman informed them that she was seven months pregnant when they arrived. The arrest report stated that she was transported to the Delray Medical Center with serious injuries, and shortly before 8.40 am, her unborn child died.

The woman's condition was stable but serious as of last week. Maddox confessed to shooting the woman with a 9mm FN handgun while he was being held by law enforcement.

Maddox admitted to the police that he and the woman had been arguing the previous week. He allegedly waiting for her to exit the hotel room on the fourth floor before shooting her in the back, shoulder and thigh.

'She lucky I didn't kill her a**'

Maddox allegedly told cops in their patrol vehicle, "She lucky I didn't kill her a**." A different witness, who has known Maddox for roughly two months, claimed to have heard someone screaming and loud bangs that he recognized were gunshots.

The witness reportedly said that after grabbing his own gun, he pursued the suspect into the hotel lobby. According to the affidavit, Maddox told the witness, "I didn't want to kill her; I just wanted to show her what's up." The same witness aided the injured woman.

According to records, the suspect made a complete confession during an interview with the police. He admitted to waiting for the woman to leave the room before shooting her twice. Maddox allegedly shot the woman as she fled down few flights of stairs.
