MIRAMAR, FLORIDA: A Florida man serving as a police officer, has been taken into custody in Miramar. He was accused of assaulting his wife by throwing a McDonald’s cheeseburger at her and subsequently punching her in the head.

The arrest was made on Thursday, August 10, and authorities made the announcement about the incident on Friday, August 11.

According to the official arrest report, the Florida police were summoned to the couple’s residence shortly before 6 pm, responding to a call regarding a domestic altercation.

The victim identified herself as the wife of Florida police Officer Andres Perez, 34.

She recounted to the responding officers that the argument between the couple had escalated from issues related to finances and alleged infidelity to a physical altercation.

The wife provided details alleging that Andres Perez entered the kitchen in a stormy manner where she was present, hurling a McDonald’s cheeseburger at her before delivering a punch to the right side of her head, just behind her ear.

“It is disheartening to learn that one of my officers was arrested for a domestic violence incident, that occurred while he was off duty,” Miami-Dade Police Interim Director Stephanie Daniels said in a statement, as per Local 10.

Andres Perez arrested on battery charges

Following the incident, the 34-year-old Andres Perez was apprehended on charges of battery. His bond has been set at $1,000.

“Police officers are held to a higher standard; this type of behavior will not be tolerated. Any actions that may hinder the public’s confidence in law enforcement is unacceptable,” said Daniels.

At present, it remains uncertain whether Perez will face disciplinary actions or termination as a consequence of his arrest. The arrest report further revealed that Perez and his wife have been married for a period of three years, sharing a relationship spanning about eight years. They also have children together.
