'Filthy Rich' Episode 5: Eugene's storyline leaves fans confused, viewers wonder if he's alive or an angel
Spoilers for 'Filthy Rich' Episode 5 'Proverbs 20:6'
Eugene's storyline has been weird since the debut episode, where he was presumed dead. But since that episode, we as the audience have seen Eugene Monreaux alive, but his family has no idea. In Episode 4, his former lover, Ginger's mother Tina, had seen him at the farmhouse. Franklin and Ginger tell Tina that it wasn't true because she had been drinking and that she needed help.
So while Tina checks into rehab, what does Ginger has to say when she spots her dad at the Mardi Gras Parade? We don't know really at this point if Eugene is alive - he seems to be in weird scenes where he's caught by what looks like Franklin's late mother, then he runs away and makes it to his farmhouse only to steal a hat and jacket and walk away. In this episode, he seems to be watching his family after he hitchhiked a ride with friends of Jason (aka Mark), which was a huge coincidence in itself. So, is he an angel? Why isn't he showing his face to his family? And why is he stalking them?
When Eugene is picked up by the two young men, he finds out that they are on their way to the Monreaux household to blow up Mark's lies. We know from previous episodes that the real Jason, Eugene's son, is in a coma, and that his adoptive brother Mark was posing as him because their mother asked them to, so that the money Mark gets can be used for Jason's hospital's bills. Rose, who is Jason's sister, knows that Mark is posing as his brother, and has kept that secret a while now. With Eugene's blessing, these two men end up calling Rose and blackmailing Mark and her for $500,000. Rose very quickly agrees because she doesn't want to lose Jason.
When they go make the drop to these men, they are unaware that Eugene is at the parade too, just with a mask on. Eugene, who now knows the full story, ends up seeing Mark and Rose kiss. He then steals the money from the two men, and goes to Jason at the hospital, and puts in under his bed. After he kisses Jason on the forehead and leaves, Jason's eyes open. "Wow, Eugene has a heart #FilthyRichFOX," wrote one fan. But another fan added, "Eugene have something up his sleeve hummm #FilthyRichFOX."

Of course, we don't really know the truth, even as the audience, because Eugene seems to be a ghost to the entire cast. The actor who plays Eugene, Gerald McRaney, told us that, "Eugene goes through some bizarre, experiences, and it's a sort of like, are you seeing Eugene's last thoughts? It almost seems like this is something that happened in a matter of seconds as he laid dying. And you're not going to know it. Is he alive? Is he dead? What's going on with Eugene because it's all sort of surreal." So, we're expecting some weird angle to pop up, and so are fans. "Soooo is Eugene alive or an Angel overlooking....?? Was that sheriff on the horse Eugene’s dead mother when he was in jail chopping down the marshes? #filthyrichfox," asked another fan with another possible angel to Eugene's narrative.
Yet another fan asked, "What does it say about Eugene that first Tina saw him and now Ginger? His "legitimate" family haven't the slightest idea he's alive. #FilthyRichFOX". On a more amusing note, fans couldn't help but realize the oddities of how Eugene is presented. "There's Rocky Raccoon... I mean Joseph Joestar... I mean Eugene #FilthyRichFOX," wrote one fan. Another fan tweeted, "Okay, Eugene kinda looks like Joseph Joestar from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders #FilthyRichFOX."
