SARATOGA COUNTY, NEW YORK: The death of a young woman allegedly at the hands of an upstate New York homeowner has left people fuming on the internet. Kaylin Gillis was out with her friends on Saturday night, April 15, but a wrong turn into the accused’s driveway by mistake claimed her life.

After the incident, the suspect, Kevin D Monahan, was arrested and pressed with a second-degree murder charge. Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy also issued a statement, saying, “This is a very sad case of some young adults who were looking for a friend's house and ended up at this man's house who decided to come out with a firearm and discharge it. There's clearly no threat from anyone in the vehicle. There's no reason for Mr Monahan to feel threatened.”

Gillis' fatal shooting happened just two days after 16-year-old Ralph Yarl was shot in the head and left traumatized for ringing the doorbell of the wrong house as he went to pick up his younger brothers, on April 13 in Kansas City, Missouri. The accused, 85-year-old Andrew D Lester, has been charged with one count of assault in the first degree and one count of armed criminal action.

‘Overturn or rewrite Second Amendment’

Both cases have shocked not just US citizens but people around the globe as a user tweeted, “So another white, 65-year-old a**hole with a gun in Upstate NY kills this innocent girl for getting lost and turning around in his driveway. As the car drove away he fired two shots with one round fatally wounding Kaylin Gillis of Saratoga County. Enough is f*****g enough!”

The second user wrote, “I think maybe the biggest issue is when all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail.” “First an 85-year-old, now a 65-year-old, shooting kids without asking any questions first. Lock them up,” a third user stated. A fourth said, “Overturn or rewrite Second Amendment. It might take 40 years but we need to change America's thinking on guns.”

A fifth user shared, “16-year-old Ralph Yarl was shot and wounded after ringing the wrong doorbell. 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis was shot and killed after turning into the wrong driveway. Enough with the f*****g guns...and the trigger-happy, fear-manipulated idiots who (shouldn't) own them.” “School shootings, police shootings, mass shootings. Ralph Yarl shot for going to the wrong house. Kaylin Gillis shot for going to the wrong driveway. If I was a US citizen, I'd sell everything and move to another country,” a person remarked.

“This is ridiculous. First Ralph Yarl, now Kaylin Gillis. When did people become so afraid of everything? I was always taught not to shoot unless your life may be in danger. It makes me mad that people are too trigger-happy for innocent mistakes like going to the wrong address,” another person added.
