LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: The man accused of masterminding the killing of rap legend Tupac Shakur in 1996 made his first court appearance in Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 4.

Duane Keith Davis, also known as 'Keffe D,' faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon in a gang-related homicide.

Why was Tupac Shakur's alleged killer's arraignment delayed?

His arraignment was postponed for two weeks after he requested his defence attorney to be present. He is likely to plead not guilty, as per CNN.

State Judge Tierra D Jones on Wednesday, October 4, granted a continuance and delayed the arraignment until October 19.

He also spoke in court asking for the continuance as his defence lawyers need two weeks before being asked if he has retained a counsel to represent him and if he was present today.

"Thank you, Your Honour," he replied as he was granted the continuance.

Davis, 60, allegedly planned the drive-by shooting that ended the life of Shakur who was 25 years old and one of the most influential hip-hop artists of all time.

His death sparked many conspiracy theories and a long investigation by police that led to Davis’ arrest last week following his indictment by a grand jury. He is the only living suspect in the case, according to police.

District attorney believes there is enough evidence to convict Duane 'Keffe D' Davis' of first-degree murder

Davis is being held without bail, and prosecutors intend to keep it that way.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said in a news conference after the hearing that his office believes there is enough evidence to convict Davis of first-degree murder and that he should not be released on bail.

"We believe under Nevada law and evidence in this case, that the proof is evident,” Wolfson said.

He added, “And the presumption is great that he will be convicted of first-degree murder and that allows us to ask for a no bail setting.”

What was Duane 'Keffe D' Davis' alleged plot?

David planned to get back at Shakur and his crew for attacking his nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The attack happened on September 7, 1996.

Davis got a gun from someone and joined Anderson, Brown, and Smith in a white Cadillac. They wanted to find the black BMW that Shakur was in, police said.

They found Shakur’s car and shot at it from the Cadillac. The bullets hit Shakur four times on the passenger side. He died in a hospital after six days.

Police did not say who shot Shakur. The other three men with Davis in the Cadillac are all dead now.
