In 'Doctor Who' Episode 3, soldiers navigate a battlefield, with Vater communicating with his daughter Splice while Carson and others switch watch duties. When Carson triggers a landmine, it attracts an ambulance which scans Vater but deems his blindness unworthy of treatment.

Vater records a message for Splice before the ambulance terminates him.

Meanwhile, the Doctor investigates but steps on a landmine, prompting Ruby to find him. Together, they discover a casket revealing the truth about the war orchestrated by the Villengard Corporation.

As Vater's AI infiltrates the ambulance system, they prevent an explosion and revive Ruby. With the war ending and the mainframe destroyed, the Doctor, Ruby, Monday, and Splice appreciate the peace. Despite Vater's death, Splice insists he's not truly gone.

The Doctor and Ruby reflect on mortality before returning to the TARDIS.
