‘Our sincerest condolences and heartfelt prayers are with his family’

Investigators said that they had retrieved Hoover’s car from a different location. No arrests have been made so far, The Sun reported.

According to the Hoover's Facebook page, he was working at Ascension St John Hospital after completing his studies at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. A statement from Ascension Michigan’s spokesperson reportedly read, “Devon Hoover, MD was a dedicated and well-respected member of the Ascension Michigan family and will be greatly missed by our community. Our sincerest condolences and heartfelt prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow associates during this incredibly difficult time.”

‘Hospitality was certainly his specialty’

Paddy Lynch, a neighbor, called Hoover “a champion of art and culture." In a Facebook post, Lynch wrote, “Devon Hoover was an exceptional person in nearly every way. A loving son and brother, a brilliant, accomplished surgeon, an unrivaled collector and caretaker of all things beautiful, and a champion of art and culture.”

He continued, “But perhaps most admirably, he was beyond generous with his time and his treasure. He was one of the first neighbors to take me under their wing, offering old house advice, support, and kindness all along the way. Hospitality was certainly his specialty as he never hesitated to open his spectacular home to countless neighbors, friends, and charitable organizations.”

“For a man small in stature, he was indeed larger than life. Like so many of our friends and neighbors, Nhu and I are still in shock and totally heartbroken. I pray that there’s a heaven and that Devon is there now, drinking wine and resting from his many labors. May his good life be remembered and may his memory be eternal,” Lynch added in his lengthy yet emotional tribute.

Many people commented below his post as a user wrote, “So sad to hear this tragic news. Prayers up for the peace that passes all understanding for his family and friends. No doubt this is a broken world but also no doubt that there is a heaven. <>< Peace.”

Another one shared, “Devon was a brilliant surgeon, a great addition to Detroit, and an absolutely wonderful human being. I got to know him when he first moved to Indian Village. I even remember meeting his adorable parents when they were in town for a visit. The last time I saw Devon was in 2019. We were driving away from our house in Indian Village just as a mystery prospective buyer arrived to take a tour. My husband looked in the rearview mirror- ‘Isn't that DEVON?’ We laughed because had we known, we might have hung around to give him a personal tour. We kept driving though, deciding to leave him alone to peek around the house as he pleased. I wish now that we had circled back. I am so very sad today.”

“Dr. Hoover recently performed my neck fusion surgery. The experience was so positive. Pain gone. personable Dr who listened. So shocked by this awful news,” another person posted.
