'City on Fire' Episode 1 does an interesting job of confusing the viewers about who the killer might be and what exactly happened to Samantha. Is 'City on Fire' a classic whodunnit? Maybe, maybe not. Who killed Samantha Yeung?

More often than not, murder investigations narrow down to a few suspects. However, after watching 'City on Fire' Episode 1, we have a feeling that this particular case will have more suspects than one can count on their fingers. The pilot episode is all about planting several seeds in the viewers’ minds which will have been confused and wondering about who could have killed Samantha. For starters, Mercer heard the gunshots and found Samantha’s body in Central Park on the 4th of July, so he can be ruled out as a suspect. Although, he is the only one taken into custody. Ironic much?

There’s no denying that Samantha was involved with a lot of people, most of whom didn’t have her best interest. Her affair with married man Keith definitely stands out in 'City on Fire' Episode 1, especially after he doesn’t make it to the party hosted by his wife, Regan Hamilton Sweeney’s father. In addition to Keith, William Hamilton Sweeney, and Nicky Chaos are two unhinged characters who stand out the most in 'City on Fire' Episode 1 and could be potential suspects in Samantha’s murder.

Love affair gone wrong?

To some, this might be heavily expected, and to others, a shocker, but Samantha’s death could ultimately be a love affair gone wrong. It is possible that ‘City on Fire’ introduces the viewers to all these characters and plots to distract them from what’s right in front of them. Samantha threatened to show up at Keith’s, and when he realizes she actually wasn’t kidding, he acted on it. Of course, this is a straightforward speculation, but again, love affairs gone wrong are the classic answers to whodunits. Could Keith have killed Samantha to save his marriage with Regan? Only time will tell.
