MOSCOW, IDAHO: The family of Bryan Kohberger, the criminology student charged with the murders of four University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, has released a statement urging the public to accept his presumption of innocence. Kohberger's family released the following statement through Kohberger's public defender Jason Allen LaBa on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

The statement read, as quoted by WNEP, "First and foremost we care deeply for the four families who have lost their precious children. There are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel, and we pray each day for them. We will continue to let the legal process unfold and as a family, we will love and support our son and brother. We have fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies in an attempt to seek the truth and promote his presumption of innocence rather than judge unknown facts and make erroneous assumptions. We respect privacy in this matter as our family and the families suffering loss can move forward through the legal process."

Internet shocked as Bryan Kohberger attended classes and finished semester at WSU after Idaho murders

A classmate who knew Kohberger’s told NewsNation that his behavior changed after the deaths of the four college students. In an exclusive interview with NewsNation, Benjamin Roberts, a graduate student studying criminal justice at Washington State University, said, "I did notice he was showing up to class a little late sometimes, he always had a coffee in hand, he always seemed to be just perpetually exhausted. Bryan seemed like he was on the knife’s edge between exhaustion and worn out and at the time it was extremely difficult to tell which was which."

Kohberger, who graduated from DeSales University in Pennsylvania in May 2022 with a master of arts in criminal justice and is a PhD student in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University, was arrested by the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police on December 30, 2022, arraigned by a Monroe County judge and ordered to be held without bail, as previously reported. He faces four counts of first-degree murder for the brutal stabbings of four students and is set to appear in court for an extradition hearing on Tuesday, January 3, reports WNEP.
