TAMPA, FLORIDA: A rapper has been arrested for allegedly killing his pregnant girlfriend just three days after he was acquitted of murdering two men in 2020. Billy Bennett Adams III, 25, known as Ace NH, was arrested on Wednesday, February 8, on charges related to the death of 22-year-old Alana Sims, who was found dead on January 30, 2022, next to her SUV, in which her 23-month-old baby was alseep.

Adams is currently facing charges of first-degree murder and killing an unborn child by injury to the mother. Officials reportedly said that he killed Sims because he did not want to be in her life and was not ready to be a father. Sims was reportedly five months pregnant when she was shot dead. Her baby was unharmed. A passerby found her around 10 pm, lying by the roadside in the 10700 block of Pictorial Park Drive, per The Tampa Bay Times.

Why did Billy Adams kill Alana Sims?

Adams initially gave contradictory accounts to investigators and claimed that he did not believe he Sims’ unborn child's father. He claimed he was at home on the night of January 30, and did not know she was dead. The rapper, who recorded three albums, two EPs and several singles, soon changed his statement and stated that he was at his friend’s place but was nowhere near the crime scene. He also handed police a video of him with his friends. However, investigators determined the video was altered and was originally shot on February 1, per Daily Mail.

Police said that Adams later admitted to the shooting but insisted that it was in self-defense as Sims pulled a gun on him after they had an argument. "Initially the defendant stated that the victim pulled a gun on him, and while the defendant wrestled with the victim he shot her," authorities reportedly said, adding, "When the defendant could not demonstrate the events, the defendant changed his statement to the fact that the victim pulled a gun on him and he was able to get the gun away from the victim and then shot her in the head as self-defense."

Adams admitted that he knew Sims was pregnant and that he was the father. "Mere days after he was acquitted of a separate crime, our homicide suspect did the unthinkable when he killed an innocent woman and her unborn child," said Lee Bercaw, Tampa's interim police chief, adding, "I hope this arrest brings some closure to the victim's family, who is mourning the loss of two loved ones. We are working with the State Attorney's Office to ensure the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

What was the earlier case against Billy Adams?

Sims' came just three days after a Tampa Jury found Adams not guilty in the murder of Trevon Albury and Daniel Thompson in a Lutz recording studio in November 2020. During the week-long trail, Adams claimed that he heard Albury and Thompson planning to rob the studio owner, Joseph Meeks. He told the jury of six men and six women that he saw Albury pulling a gun on Meeks, who was working on his computer at that time.

Adams said that he shot Albury in self-defense and killed Thompson when he jumped on his gun. The jury believed Adams’ account and acquitted him of two counts of first-degree murder after a four-hour-long deliberation. “The jury did find that you are not criminally responsible for that, but I certainly hope that you find yourself in the future never in a situation that may involve anything like this,” said Hillsborough Circuit Judge Christopher Sabella.
