'Billions' Season 5 ended with a bang and also had fans questioning if Damian Lewis would return for the sixth installment of the Showtime drama. The English actor plays Bobby Axelrod, one of the driving forces of the show and his storyline in the finale sees him flee to Switzerland to avoid financial crime charges. This move along with the fact that he wasn't shown in the Season 6 promo left the audience puzzled.

It's a bittersweet win for Axe as he loses everything and everyone in the process. "I can’t spend my life being some caged animal,” Axe tells Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff) before he goes. “I stay, the truth is, after the fight, I lose. They got me. I’m going to jail, I’m not staying and fighting. I’m getting out of here … to a place on the continent, where there’s no extradition for certain financial crimes."

Talking about the ending and Axe, Twitterati felt there was no point for tuning into a confirmed Season 6 if Lewis wasn't part of the show. "Billions without Axe is same as Fish without water Axelrod is Legend & Mike is Douche Show is dead without Axelrod. #Billions Billions Finale @SHO_Billions," one of the fans wrote. "The billion dollar question remains: Is #DamianLewis leaving the show? If that's the case - I wonder if Axe may show up in S6 in some form so we know what he's been up to. Yes, I know he's a fictional character but I already miss him! #Billions #DamianLewis #BobbyAxelrod," a tweet read.

"If season 6 is Chuck vs Prince, and in the first few episodes it doesn't seem like Axe is comimg back, I'm out! Prince doesn't have that x-factor for me! #Billions," a comment read. This was echoed by another who said: "The last few episodes pretty much prepared us 4 Axe loosing, so I expected & was okay with that cause it made me look forward to season 6... But after seeing that teaser at the end, season 6 might have to miss me, Chuck vs Prince isn't intriguing, no pull whatsoever!!! #Billions."

Some felt it was a tease. "Damn. Didn’t see Axe in the S6 trailer, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be back. Hey, a girl can dream. #Billions". "Axe should have never toyed with Mike and I enjoyed the a** whopping he got. Mike won but it won't last. Until next season. #BIllions," a tweet read.

In an interview with GQ in 2020, the high bow Brit had shared his two cents on playing the character. "Over a period of time, I find Bobby Axelrod sits heavily on me. By the end of each six months, I have had enough of it.” With this, his exit on the show raises some questions about his reprisal of the role in the upcoming season.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of not seeing Axe in Season 6 of 'Billions'?
