LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: James Cameron's second chapter in the epic 'Avatar' saga, titled 'Avatar: The Way of Water', is continuing its golden run at the box office and raked in big numbers to achieve a monumental feat in just under a week. According to the latest figures, the movie has already crossed the $600 million mark at the global box office in just seven days despite facing a lot of challenges in some of the crucial international markets.

It doesn't come as a shock that 'The Way of Water' is doing so well at the box office considering the first movie has been the highest-grossing movie of all time. Although it's still unclear if the sequel will touch the same level of success as the first movie, 'The Way of Water' has managed to shatter some phenomenal records at the box office.

As per the latest figures, the second movie in the 'Avatar' franchise has already earned more than $609.7 million globally in just under a week, making it one of the fastest-grossing movies to $600 million worldwide. The movie went on to earn more than $40.5 million in international markets on Tuesday and grossed another $39.5 million on Wednesday to its global tally to a staggering $426.8 million. The biggest contributors to the movie's massive success have been China, France, India, Korea, Germany, the UK, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, and Italy.

These figures are extraordinary despite the movie underperforming in China due to rising cases of Covid-19. The hospitals are overwhelmed with people coming in to get treatment and if the situation was better, the movie could have grossed much more than what it has already grossed in that region. Nevertheless, the movie has already become the fifth-highest-grossing Hollywood movie world, surpassing the likes of 'Thor: Love and Thunder' ($417.6 million) and 'The Batman' ($401.4 million). The figures indicate that the movie should cross 'Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness's overseas figures ($544 million) in the coming few days.

It is worth noticing that the holiday season is coming up and with no major releases in theatres, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' could see a good jump at the domestic box office as well. The movie had the best Tuesday of the year ($18.28 million) and second-best Wednesday of the year ($14.40 million) after 'Top Gun: Maverick'.

Analysts estimate that the movies will touch the billion-dollar mark in the next 10 days.

'Avatar: The Way of Water’ is set a decade after the events of the first film and tells the story of the Sully family and the troubles that follow them. The family will do anything to keep each other safe and they fight the battle to keep the entire tribe safe from the wrath of humans. The movie sees Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana returning as Jake Sully and Neytiri. Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang also return as Kiri and Colonel Miles Quaritch. On the other hand, actors such as Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Jamie Flatters, and Britain Dalton join the movie as the new cast members.
