What is the significance of the drawing that depicts the Kubrick Stare?
The picture drawn by Hale depicts the Kubrick stare. “Kubrick Stare” is one of Stanley Kubrick‘s most recognizable directorial techniques, a method of shot composition where a character stares at the camera with a forward tilt, to convey to the audience that the character in question is at the peak of their derangement. Meanwhile, "It generally signifies that the character in question is either really, really pissed or really, really deranged, and the person they're looking at is really, really screwed. Other times — usually when combined with a smile — it means they're feeling really, really clever (regardless of whether or not they actually are)," as per TV Tropes.
How does Audrey Hale describe himself on his portfolio?
The artist describes himself in his portfolio, "Hello, my name is Audrey Hale. I am a freelance Illustrator and Graphic Designer who creates logos for businesses. I primarily work with clients that desire a brand personality. I provide illustrations and designs that will help tell a company’s story. My illustrations usually bring a whimsical and light-hearted feel. Aside from art, I enjoy binging on video games, watching movies, and playing sports. There is a child-like part about me that loves to go run to the playground. Animals are my second passion, so I also enjoy spending time with my two cats," as per his official website.
'What’s that got to do with the shooting?'
The Internet had various reactions to the drawing. A user said, " So do I, but that doesn’t make me a killer. I also have a picture of Pennywise drawn by my granddaughter, and although she’s a 5-year-old terrorist, I feel safe around her. Stephen King is only the most popular author on the planet." A user noted, "Alright, another thing to blame instead of addressing the actual problem! Let’s blame TikTok, movies, video games, drag queens, art, the whole LGBTQ+ community, and mental health, but dear god, NEVER mention guns or how insanely easy it is to get one. Good job."
A comment read, "Don’t Blame Stephen King. The shooter was 28, had known mental health issues (plural), and still lived at home with their Mom. How did the shooter’s mom not know about a giant bag full of assault rifles and guns in her own home? Obviously, if your kid is still a failure to launch at 28, something ain’t right. A 5150 sooner by the shooter’s friends/family could have saved lives." Another claimed, "I don’t know who needs to hear this, but “thoughts and prayers” aren’t working!!! they never were." "And what’s that got to do with the shooting? Tbh same if trans or not focus on stopping it from happening again," said another.
