NBC's new streaming site Peacock is bringing a thought-provoking story based on Anthony Walker's life. The 18-year-old Black student was killed in an unmotivated, racial attack on the night of 29 July 2005. He was struck in the head with an ice axe, which got lodged in his skull, causing brain death. His death sent shock waves across the country sparking agitation against racism.

In a new story, writer Jimmy McGovern attempts to take this incident and tell it in an even more hard-hitting manner. 'Anthony' is a movie about the life that was brutally cut short by death and hate. It tells the story of what could have been had Anthony not been murdered. Here's everything you need to know about the movie coming to Peacock.

Plot

According to the official synopsis of the film, "In 2005, 18-year-old Black student Anthony Walker was murdered in an unprovoked, racially motivated attack in Liverpool that shocked the nation. 'Anthony' is a powerful feature film that examines the impact of Anthony Walker's murder by exploring what may have happened had he lived. This distinctive drama presents a unique perspective on this devastating crime and the life it took away. Anthony's imagined life is told through reverse chronology as we see him realize his dreams and enjoy the life he had a right to live, before fate - and hate - took it all away."

Toheeb Jimon as Anthony Walker

Jimon plays Anthony Walker in this emotional movie. The actor is known for his work in 'Ted Lasso', 'The French Dispatch', 'The Feed' and 'London Kills'.

Rakie Ayola as Gee Walker

Ayola is set to play the role of Anthony's mother Gee Walker. The actress is best known for her role in 'Holby City' as Kyla Tyson. Ayola rose to international fame when she took over the role of Hermione Granger in the West End production of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' in 2017. 

Julia Brown as Katherine

Brown is set to play the role of Anthony's wife Katherine. The actress is known for her work in 'World On Fire' and has appeared in 'MI High', 'Shetland', and 'The Last Kingdom'.

'Anthony' is written by BAFTA-winning screenwriter Jimmy McGovern and produced by Colin McKeown and Donna Molloy for LA Productions. The film is directed by Terry McDonough. Colin McKeown, Jimmy McGovern and Terry McDonough serve as executive producers, along with Lucy Richer for the BBC.
