'Anne with an E' Season 4: Fans actively petition for show's renewal but showrunners claim there will be no new episodes
Despite the huge fan base and generally positive critical reception consistently, the CBC and Netflix show ‘Anne with an E’ has been canceled after the recently –premiered Season 3. The show, which is yet to be added to the Netflix library, premiered on September 22, 2019, on CBC and concluded on November 24. The cancelation announcement came out of nowhere and shocked fans, especially those in Canada who have watched the potentially final season and think there is a lot of stories to be explored.
The show has become somewhat of a classic in the short two-year duration it has been around, and the fourth and even the fifth seasons were taken for granted. There was a huge backlash as soon as it was announced that the show would not return for the fourth season, with fans even calling CBC for pretending that having three seasons was always the plan. When CBC posted a "Wrapping Up" video "Looking back on three seasons of the series," fans were quick to call out the gaslighting.
A fan said, "WOW THE AUDACITY @CBC tryna make this look like they filmed a farewell vid. THIS AIN'T IT. take your gaslighting and hit the door. #renewannewithane," while another tweeted, "I can't understand why you would cancel a show that promotes self love and be kind to others. Anne With An E is about healing, keep having hope that everything will work out and most of all being brave! This is all so important and necessary nowadays. RENEW ANNE #renewannewithane"

The backlash led the show's creator Moira Walley-Beckett to write, "Please know that we fought, too... If there was something more to do I would do it." It is clear that the showrunners want to explore more stories set in the Green Gables universe, and fans are hoping that Netflix takes on the production responsibilities solely. Meanwhile, others are trying to reach out to Disney+ to see if they would take it on.
"i contacted disney+ and they gave me SO MUCH HOPE! don’t give up fighting for AnnE, we’re being heard. here’s the link she told me to suggest Anne with an E season 4 on: https://help.disneyplus.com/csp?id=csp_index… -click on the link, click on “give feedback” & suggest AnnE season 4 #renewannewithane," wrote a fan. Will these requests be heard? It remains to be seen, but we sure hope so.
