This sequel to the 2021 crime season picks up the story of Del Harris (Jeff Daniels), Grace Poe (Maura Tierney), and Billy Poe (Alex Neustaedter), whose fates were left unresolved in Season 1, originally premiered on Showtime.

Set four months after the West Virginia shootout, Del has returned to the Pittsburgh PD, attempting to balance his duties in Pittsburgh with his relationship with Grace in Buell.

Meanwhile, Chief Steve Park Rob Yang) is convinced in his belief of Del's involvement in the triple homicide and is diligently gathering evidence to press charges.

Following an intense cat-and-mouse pursuit between Steve and Del, Del is ultimately compelled to confess to his crimes.

Learning that Lee English's (Julia Mayorga) life is in danger, Del urgently contacts Steve, urging him to rush to Lee's residence and rescue her. Initially hesitant, Steve eventually agrees after Del comes clean about the events that transpired in West Virginia

Upon sealing the deal, Steve and his colleague Hannah Geddy (Rae Gray) head to Lee's house only to discover her already dead.

They confront Russell Wolfe (Christopher Denham), Lee's killer, resulting in a violent shootout during which Hannah sustains severe injuries, and Steve manages to eliminate Russell.

Upon Del's arrival, Steve confronts him at gunpoint, insisting on Del honoring their deal.

When Del inquires about Lee's safety, Steve hides the fact that she is dead, and proceeds to extract a confession from Del.

Just as Steve secures Del's full confession on tape, Grace enters and shoots him in the head. Del takes Grace's gun and places it in Russell's hand to stage it as though Russell killed Steve.

Grace takes the recorder while Del goes upstairs and discovers Lee's dead body, leaving him devastated. Del once walks away free and is appointed Sheriff of Fayette County.

In the climax scene, Del, Grace, Isaac (David Alvarez), and Billy gather for dinner and remember Lee. During this moment, Billy notices a laser targeting Del from outside the window.

Motivated by his determination to protect his loved ones, Billy quietly grabs a gun and steps outside. As an unidentified assailant aims at Del, Billy aims back at them.

A gunshot rings out, and the screen fades to black. While it's implied that Billy may have thwarted the assailant, the threat may not be over.

Meanwhile, Hannah, who witnessed Steve's murder, survives her gunshot wound. Episode 10 concludes on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating another season.

'American Rust: Broken Justice' is now available to stream on Prime Video.
