NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: 'American Idol' Season 22 introduces 17-year-old contestant Dawson Slade, a talented country singer hailing from Moulton, Alabama. Having relocated to Nashville, Tennessee last year, Dawson is set to make his mark in the singing reality show.
Dawson graced the 'American Idol' stage with both his mother Lindsay and son. As his mother stepped onto the stage, the judges were taken aback by her striking resemblance to Katy Perry.
Luke Bryan suggested they pose side by side, revealing uncanny similarities in their features. Katy commented, "She is the first, she is the prototype." A fan agreed, "and she looks like Katy's sister Angela too." "His mom tho! Katy’s twin lol!" wrote another surprised fan.
A fan claimed, "His mom looks like Katie Perry." Another wondered, "Is his mom Katie Perry’s twin sister by the way?" One joked, "I was waiting for them to introduce his mom as @katyperry sister." "His mom looks like the older version of Katy," wrote another.
Despite being impressed by Dawson's mother, Lionel initially rejected Dawson with a firm "No." Following suit, Luke also declined, but after a brief pause, he reconsidered and decided to give Dawson another chance. Grateful for the opportunity, Dawson was asked to sing a different song.
Katy intervened and asked Dawson to stop playing the guitar in between. The judges encouraged him to showcase the full range of his voice. Katy remarked, "I think you have those levels, and you need to use them." While Katy said yes, the final decision rested on Luke's shoulders. After careful consideration, Luke also said yes.
Is 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Dawson Slade married?
It is unclear whether Dawson is married, but he is a father. His son was born in 2023, and Dawson shared numerous photos of his baby boy on June 25, 2023, with the caption, "My little king."
During the audition, it seems that Dawson will be accompanied by his baby and presumably the baby's mother.

Before fully diving into the singing space, Dawson was a football player, likely during his high school years. In 2020, he shared a series of photos showcasing his time playing for the Red Devils.
Captioning the post, he expressed, "The great thing about football is after a while you become much more than teammates. You become brothers. Much love to all! 💪🏽🖤 It’s gonna be a good year!‼️"
