'American Idol': Emyrson Flora picked for raw talent, fans say ‘glad judges took risk’
While we have already seen a bunch of teen singers showing up at the audition of ‘American Idol’ Season 20, another teen crooner named Emyrson Flora pulled up in front of the judges with an intention to grab the golden ticket to Hollywood. The 16-year-old singer from Ohio sang her rendition of ‘The Joke’ by Brandi Carlile on the fifth episode of the singing reality show that was aired on Monday, March 21.
Emyrson Flora is a TikTok star who showed her skills at the piano in front of Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie. Though Emyrson managed to impress the trio she later confessed that she was a bit nervous to which Katy Perry said everyone on the show is nervous. Shedding light on her audition, Katy told Emyrson, “You got some really cool things in your voice like you can really project,” adding Emyrson got a lot of raw talent. The pop icon also added that she loved the small notes at the end of her performance hoping she got more of it if she goes ahead. Co-judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie completely agreed to what Katy said and taking her raw talent into the spotlight they decided to take a chance on her. The trio unanimously said yes to her hoping she will deliver better performances on the show ahead.

One user stated, “Emyrson Flora sings with a voice bigger than her age, for sure.” Whereas, one posted, “Flora is going to need to show some fight during Hollywood week but I have a funny feeling nobody is going to expect the overwhelming support she gets. I don't even think it is going to be close once the audience gets involved.” Another user posted, “I'm glad that the Judges took a risk. I think Emyrson has the potential. She needs to be more careful with her song choices and definitely more personality.” And, one concluded, “Emyrson Flora at the piano, interesting tone, good emotion, great dynamics with little breaks in her voice that are very pleasing.
